In tonight's subscriber edition, some thoughts from old Marmite Antoinette on how to get ahead. open.substack.com/pub/subslack...

Waste of words to ever complete a sentence that begins "Does Christopher Luxon ever stop and think..."

"Tonight: now that walking uphill barefoot through snow both ways is a thing of the past, have kids gone too soft? And later, we'll offer a blunt, unnuanced hot take on a complex social issue and ask our panel: yeah or nah? Finally, we'll regurgitate a press release from a lobby group. Mā te wā."

Luxon: Trusts Donald Trump Doesn't trust Māori with Three Waters

Years ago when Chris Bishop was working in Gerry Brownlee's office, one of his colleagues told me "oh Chris wants to be PM." "Good luck with that", I thought, but you'd have to say he's looking like their better choice right now.

Simon Wilson with the central fact that Bernard Orsman somehow didn't include in his front-page story about Wayne Brown railing against an inner-city project: the person made the project happen and literally threatened anyone who got in the way was ... The German elections have concluded: let's see how long it takes them to form a coalition. Last time it was about three months. Worth reminding media here of this process, given we have exactly the same elections system - after their hysteria at our own post-election negns taking too long #NZpol

Sailing a ship from Auckland to Suva in 1865: five days Luxon and co letting on about Andrew Bayly: longer

Luxon not afraid to let us know who's boss when it's only Andrew Bayly at stake

Thank you to Green MP Julie Anne Genter for sharing such an important perspective, especially on behalf of those of us who feel we can’t ❤️ #nzpol @nzgreensglobal.bsky.social @julieannegenter.bsky.social open.substack.com/pub/emilywri...

This is how it’s done.

Russel has updated this a few times and it’s already due for another update as Luxon’s #WarOnNature rolls on. It could also be called Luxon’s betrayal of New Zealand. One Year of Luxon’s War on Nature, via @russelnorman.bsky.social #nzpol

We told the Trump administration to fuck right off their bullshit.

I'm saying this as somebody who's been at a lot of protests in NZ: if violence starts, it is *always* Destiny Church. Consistently. The only times I've been assaulted are by Destiny Church members. They are not a church, they are a violent hate group and people need to wake up to it.

Any system that’s chucking people out of Aotearoa and not starting with Thiel has got it all wrong

Ever bought Codral or similar? It doesn't work; countless studies have shown this, yet Johnson & Johnson keep peddling it to unsuspecting kiwis to fork out cash for useless remedies when they're sick Register your interest in the NZ Class Action against J&J portal.omnibridgeway.com/cases/regist...

OK, I wrote my “who’s going to enforce it?” piece. It’s a lengthy read, trying to respond to a lot of questions I’ve gotten over the past three weeks, but it’s about democracy so I decided it was worth it to lay out in depth, with examples, what I’ve been talking about here and elsewhere.

I think the correct thing is for state governments to pass legislation to seize federal employment taxes to make up the promised shortfall and put them directly to their own coffers.

America now a country where it's an important political statement when the Bar Association says it supports rule of law, adsf';ldsfgk;lfsgdkl;jfsdgk;jlfdgk;ljdfgs that's the sound of a slide down the colour scale in the Democracy Index map

The entire subscription/patronage model that journalism is trying (well, forced) to move towards is predicated on the idea that journalism is a public good. But I think the nature of that public good is becoming clearer in this moment. 1/n

When you see the things you fought for, come to life! Took this “after shot” of Te Hā Noa on the way to the bus. What was two lanes of road, is now part of our growing urban forest where people & birds can stop and enjoy the city centre instead of just walking ordriving through.

The Govt's frothing at the prospect of turning NZ into a Pacific Norway through oil mining & make us all rich. OK. One minor detail. Here, we take a royalty of FIVE PERCENT from oil companies. Norway taxes oil companies at SEVENTY EIGHT PERCENT. Spot the difference? Coz political journos can't.

The people’s electric car

what people think indigenous folks are like in 2024: I have spoken to the wind and it tells me great sorry the actual experience: soembody tell auntie we can't keep writing the tribal newsletter in comic sans the tamariki say it's cringe

Same. Fuck these people

I'll never forget how a bunch of influencers were like "Project 2025 isn't real, Trump said so" before the election and now everything from Project 2025 is happening and people won't even connect the dots because so few people are willing to read a 922 page document

Initiatives such as Paris have the potential for a triple win for us: better air quality, decarbonisation & reduced dependence on imported oil & therefore inflation (here's a strong co-relation between inflation & the oil price). Unfortunately, we have Simeon Brown who prefers shit-posting.

Scotland hates him too. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
