Today’s “One First” takes a (very) deep dive into Justice Alito’s Saturday night dissent in the A.A.R.P. Alien Enemy Act case—and how it attempts to invent a series of procedural objections to the majority’s intervention that … simply don’t exist: www.stevevladeck.com/p/145-justic...

Rip Chief Pontiac, Odawa leader, died this day 1769. "They came with a Bible and their religion, stole our land, and crushed our spirit, and now tell us we should be thankful to the Lord for being saved."

So the White House story is now: “We didn’t mean to threaten Harvard, because we didn’t mean to send the threatening letter we sent, but when Harvard rejected the threats we made but didn’t mean to make, we decided to threaten them twice more.” The country is now run by thugs and idiots.

Madness. Our enemies couldn’t do more damage…

Hey Donold, Joe Biden brought Brittney Griner home from a Russian gulag, but you can’t bring home Kilmar Abrego García? You gonna let Joe be a better dealmaker than you?

As a lawyer, I can tell you why Abrego Garcia must remain in El Salvador. If he were free, he could sue me for defamation and win. by Pam Bondi

Let’s fucking go!

New from me at Cato: with yesterday's developments in the Abrego Garcia case, it becomes clear that Donald Trump aims to create an offshore zone in which persons of his choosing can be whisked out of the U.S. and stripped of all constitutional rights, "beyond the writ of" the federal courts. /1

He almost put enough gold stuff in the White House to make it look like the Kremlin. Not quite, but he’ll get there.

Alright, I think people knew of the tariff pause and traded it beforehand. You can see before Trump posted "buy" on Truth Social, traders opened $QQQ $TQQQ and $SPY calls RIGHT BEFORE THE NEWS, someone opened $SPY 509 calls, expiring TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Those calls are up 2100% in one hour.

Sometimes, when he fails badly enough, Trump can be forced to do the thing he says he never does: back down. Today is just one more turn on the roller coaster - but it is more evidence of why we can't give up or let up.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.: “Chaos is its own form of tariff. Who invests in a nation that can't have a set of dependable laws that people can count on?”

I'm seeing grown-ass adults marvel at how high stocks jumped today - they must think their mom actually vanished when she played "peek-a-boo."

US farmers overwhelmingly voted for Trump trade war. They don't deserve another bailout and should not get one

Largest deployment of long-range stealth bombers in U.S. history: 6 B-2 “Spirit” aircraft sent to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. "This is a highly visible threat to Tehran, but at least one party isn’t supposed to notice: the American people." #Iran www.kenklippenstein.com/p/pentagon-p...

Honestly, this shit is just embarrassing at this point. I think if some conservative dickhead came up with a challenge to the Constitution on allowing slavery, these assholes would find a way to support it, with Thomas writing the decision.

I feel like the USA bypassed the Constitutional Crisis stage and is running joyfully into the failed state phase.

This is the most important thing that I read today.

America has become an authoritarian state. These officials primary loyalty should to be to the United States, not a president who would be king.

Efforts by the National Institutes of Health to shut down research that merely references LGBTQ people or people of color are a direct attack on public health — and illegal.

“So unbelievably stupid, incompetent and insane.”

Other than Russia, everyone got tariffed.

Way to screw your supporters yet again: Trump files to sell $2 billion of his tanking stock!

“My friend, Madame President: I yield the floor.”

A fired HHS worker asks a senator about layoffs that are hurting services for “people with disabilities” and asks what he’ll do to help them. Once the senator is safely behind his staff in the elevator, he ignores the suffering & replies that the worker is a “clown” who “deserved” to be fired.

DOGE is stealing buildings from [US Institute of] Peace.

This piece from @jvl.bsky.social is one of the most important insightful I have read since January 20th 2025.

Such a distillation of the con: guess who got Musk's $1 million check yesterday? The head of the Wisconsin College Republicans. meidasnews.com/news/republi...

As of Friday, there have been 46 cases in which federal judges have blocked Trump policies. The rulings in those cases have come from 39 different judges appointed by 5 different presidents (of both parties) to 11 different district courts across 7 different circuits. Maybe it's not the judges?

A CDC spokesperson told @propublica.org the agency decided against releasing a measles assessment that warned the risk of catching the virus is high near outbreaks where vaccination rates are lagging “because it does not say anything that the public doesn’t already know.” www.cnn.com/2025/03/31/h...

Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century." snyder.substack.com/p/twenty-les...

Holy mother of Cheetos

Paul Weiss: We are pathetic. Skadden: Hold our beer.

Best summary I've seen so far. Also, I value his work because it spares me from having to listen to press conferences.

NEWS: Trump is trying to end collective bargaining across a wide swath of the federal government, claiming targeted agencies “have as a primary function intelligence, counterintelligence, investigative, or national security work.” www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

"We did not expect an American administration to adopt the same tactics used by Moscow....While America still has a First Amendment, it increasingly seems to apply only to those who agree with the president."

SCOOP: A WIRED review of public data shows that national security adviser Mike Waltz, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, and other top officials left sensitive information exposed via Venmo—until WIRED asked about it.

journalists should assume the admin is lying. judges should assume the admin is lying. Dems voting on appointments should assume the admin is lying. like, we should not be extending the benefit of the doubt ever here.

Usually, you don't get a sequel when the first movie is still playing. Excellent.

I would like to nominate Maxwell Smart for national security advisor.

“Wait guys, P. Hegseth is typing…”
