So Trump's selection to replace Gen. CQ Brown, Jr. as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, LT. Gen. Dan Caine is literally unqualified for the job and will require special exemption. This is why DEI is a thing. uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?r...

"Trump’s negotiations over Ukraine have particularly alarmed people in Taiwan, who see parallels between Russia’s invasion and China’s aims... Trump’s unpredictability has made people nervous, given [that] Trump doesn’t seem to value defending democracies against authoritarianism."

Just outrageous.

This is what Zionism has become, for the most part.

This CBC piece on Arab American voters in MI is so frustrating. They still don't see that Trump was able to secure a ceasefire by promising to help ethnically cleanse Gaza, and that once the hostages are all returned the genocide will resume. (exactly what Hamas feared). youtu.be/jS13FN7CkBM?...

"Sources told CNN the officials did not seem to know this agency oversees America’s nuclear weapons." If this doesn't convince you that Musk's DOGE doesn't know what it's doing, I don't know what will.

Isn't it odd that for someone that was so insistent on a ceasefire before he became president, Trump now seems Ok with months if not years of renewed conflict - because that's what will likely happen if Israel restarts the war. Almost like it was all about the inauguration.

“Today, DEI has become the new N-word; the new rightwing abstraction deployed by Republicans to conceal their anti-Black racism.” My latest for the Guardian, in which I cite Lee Atwater, and bring lots of receipts. Sorry, but it has to be said:

As I've said, Israel was always going to restart the war, if Trump would let it. And he's not only letting it, he's recommending it. So the coming slaughter could be just as brutal as what came before. The only wrinkle from Israel's point of view is that Hamas hasn't released all the hostages yet.

There are conflicting reports that the US recently agreed (or not) to sell MOAB bombs to Israel. I hope that the reports saying that it has done so are mistaken, but if not, Trump has just ensured an all-out war between Israel and Iran that will inevitably drag in the US aoav.org.uk/2025/aoav-co...

Trump's white nationalism in action.

You cannot make this stuff up. Israeli president Herzog condemns Hamas for the weak and emaciated condition of hostages released today. As if this is not the result of Israel's starvation strategy of restricting the flow of food and aid into Gaza. www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_ent...

This is unethical, cruel to study participants, counter to and a threat to public health, and wasteful of US funds that were already invested in these studies. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/06/h...

Can we please not act like Israelis' desire to ethnically cleanse Gaza is a post-Oct 7th result of the trauma inflicted on that day? Some warned that expulsionist sentiment in Israel was high prior to Oct 7th. Here is @Peterbeinart.bsky.social in April, 2023: jewishcurrents.org/could-israel...

Bomb the area, gas the tunnels: Israel’s unbridled war on Gaza’s underground - https://www.972mag.com/tunnels-hamas-lethal-gas-bombs-gaza/

"At 3C or more of heating by 2050, there could be more than 4 billion deaths, significant sociopolitical fragmentation worldwide, failure of states (with resulting rapid, enduring, and significant loss of capital), and extinction events." www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Surprise, surprise. Israel is violating the ceasefire agreement, blocking the entry of much needed medical supplies, tents and heavy equipment. My guess is Israel is still considering restarting the war.

Political philosophers sometimes like to say that each outcome of an equal opportunity competition is (because of the competition's rewards) another opportunity that won't (but should) be equal. So they suggest sometimes limiting the rewards in some way. Olsen's case is an argument for this.

This aid freeze is so ill-considered. But that's the thing about Trump: everything is ill-considered. He doesn't take his job seriously. This was clear from his first term. So he fails even the most basic test that presidential candidates have to pass: taking the job seriously. What could go wrong?

Cool recent story in Scientific American about how the debate over the existence of Planet Nine may soon come to some resolution with the impending launch of the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile. www.scientificamerican.com/article/if-p...

I predicted that Israel would try to ethnically cleanse Gaza if Trump were elected. Now here is Trump going on the record being in favor of it. As bad as Israel's war on Gaza has been for Gazans, it would be many times worse if it ended with their ethnic cleansing. apnews.com/article/trum...

Sounds like Harvard wants credit for its slavery initiative, yet is afraid of its staff doing its work in a way that exceeds the narrowly circumscribed parameters it prefers, and possibly finding too many descendants of slaves. So it fired the staff that's pushing back against those narrow limits.
