The pattern had some flaws and I learned a lot but it turned out well!

Recently, green card and visa holders have been facing tougher scrutiny at airports. Immigration attorneys give tips on how to reduce the chances of running into problems while traveling.

In case anyone wants to borrow this, I made a visual of the many roles of the school librarian using napkin.ai based off of a collaborative document & discussion thread by MA school librarians. Schools NEED school librarians. #TLSky #EduSky #Skybrarians #Skybrarian #library

We need your help TODAY to tell your governors and key members of the House and Senate that federal funding for libraries - the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) - needs to be preserved! action.everylibrary.org/emaileo2025

Feel like this book is more relevant than ever right now. We are getting a reminder of what the world was like before vaccines.

Happy Women’s History Month…woohooo! 🥳🏄‍♀️💥

And beyond this one day blackout and more intentional economic withdrawal, 1) shop local as much as you can, 2) support small businesses owned by people of color, and 3) vet your purchasing options via tools like Goods Unite Us.

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

Only an idiot would think we should eliminate: - Emergency response in natural disasters - Education and healthcare for disabled children - Clean air and water programs - Gang crime investigations - Monitoring of nursing home abuse - Nuclear reactor regulation - Cancer research

Knowing how to moderate what you see (& don't see) on Bluesky can make a BIG difference. 100% worth taking the time to learn what's available. I've updated "How To Control What You See (& Don't See on Bluesky" with interaction settings improvements: publish.obsidian.md/debbieohi/bl... #BlueSkyTips

Love this!

A new North Dakota bill would require stores to pull any book with any "material harmful to minors" from the shelves. For those in the cheap seats, that effectively means ANY mention of sex, sexuality or gender. A bookseller could be arrested for displaying 1984. www.inforum.com/opinion/colu...

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! Spreading some love today because we all need a little more these days.

One thing Democratic leadership could do right now is to name an alternate HHS secretary--someone to provide ongoing public updates and health information. And do it for other departments too. Start showing voters what a Democratic government would look like--press conferences, speeches, all of it.

You are not powerless, and he is not unstoppable. Look at, and learn from, the funding freeze and how quickly he was forced to surrender.

Like you, I am joining Blue Sky because this community believes that even in these dark days, the sky’s the limit. We’re not cowering to tyranny. Onward.

The American Bar Association has just called upon every attorney, regardless of their political views, to join them & stand up for the rule of law & at minimum insist that our government "follow the law." Every lawyer has an ethical responsibility to do so. www.americanbar.org/news/abanews...

This is the way.

Okay, pals. Time for action this month. We're going to do that by funding classrooms that are specifically seeking out Black history books. These classrooms are those that are in historically underfunded communities. These asks are from teachers whose students benefit directly.

Information is quickly disappearing

In another timeline, there's a government putting huge funding into schools & libraries, giving teachers & librarians all the resources they need to help kids become readers - reading for themselves, thinking for themselves, creating a better world for us all. That's the timeline I want to live in.

These phrases matter, especially in supporting young people's development, AND they're good things to say to people of any age. We all need a little encouragement, trust, acknowledgment, respect, and love.

The start of a new project! Crocheting takes me away from doomscrolling.

NEW: In these unprecedented times, it's easy to feel defeated and powerless. But there are many ways everyday citizens can help in the fight for democracy. @marcelias.bsky.social shares ten things all of us can do.

This is the face of courage and compassion. Thank you Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde for speaking truth to power on behalf of the marginalized.

I just had a video of Captain Von Trapp tearing up the Nazi flag (The Sound of Music) removed from TikTok for violating “community guidelines.”

To those re-evaluating how they use social media to protect their mental health: Bluesky has MANY features you can use to curate what you do & don't see. I use "mute <word/name>" feature a lot these days. I also never engage w/trolls, just BLOCK. publish.obsidian.md/debbieohi/bl... #BlueSkyTips

Art is optimism!

I cannot stress enough that libraries need to be defended. Public. Academic. School. Fight for them. USE them & make it known that you're using them. As a librarian who lost the fight at their institution & was forced to toss 120,000 books because "no one reads books anymore," I am begging you.

So many amazing books read in 2024! 📚❤️

In his first term, President Trump proposed defunding IMLS, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which is the backbone of federal aid to state libraries and local grants. Let's stop it before it starts!

Whether they are doing storytime, teaching classes about social media privacy, or discovering new books to add to their collections, librarians always work overtime

Always amazing to hear @mrschureads.bsky.social speak! ❤️

Libraries matter more than ever now! They embody a beautiful & brilliant idea that we must never stop defending. The idea that knowledge is free & belongs to EVERYONE. We all need to support our libraries & librarians - especially when people seek to ban books & free thinking. #libraries #books

Perfect

These look so fun!

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism. We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

My biggest and most important takeaway from #NCTE2024, and the one I will be sharing widely and freely as we see this rapidly approaching asteroid: DO NOT OBEY IN ADVANCE.

From updating your trustee descriptions to strengthening your collection management policies, here's how libraries should prepare for the incoming administration. Not a librarian? You can get help, too. This is packed with *strong* samples. bookriot.com/prepare-your...

What are you all doing to take care of yourself during these times? What’s helping me: creating something (lately crochet), checking in with family/friends, reading, music (mostly up-beat K-pop), walking workout videos
