I want to give due credit to those particular ICE agents who are honoring their oaths to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States. Two problems: (a) I can't identify anyone behind those masks, and (b) I haven't yet encountered any account of an ICE agent's meeting this description.

I cannot express this enough: If and when the tide turns away from fascism, you cannot mistake a ceasefire for peace. They never, ever want peace. You must persecute those responsible to the ends of the earth. You must make future generations fear a repeat of their fate.

Bloomberg push alert just now:

Ask your doctor what treatment the supreme court decided is right for you.

If you ever respond to my skeet about some awful judicial decision in a southern state by saying that people should just leave “confederate shitholes” that is an instant fucking block. We don’t leave anyone behind on the path to liberation and safety.

my hottest educational take is that schools should actively, non-punitively teach students how to admit when they don't know something, aren't sure or have made a mistake, with various teaching frameworks adapted to support this ideal, because people who can't admit fault are breaking the world

the timidity here is truly a sickness - if you're a fucking representative of Congress and you have the authority to inspect, you go in there with that authority in your voice and backup plans for how to force your way in if they say no

Parallel to our point. He is obiviously frozen out. Every faction up there has a reason not to trust him. So he has to make noise elsewhere.

Sure is neato how much the cops continue to suck in dealing with the assassination of an elected official. How do you end up letting a break-in occur just a few days later AT THE CRIME SCENE.

Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.

I’m not even someone that really cares if Obama speaks out, but it really bothers me how he and so many Democrats are unable to anticipate and recognize critical deciding moments to keeping some form of democracy, and how he so wedded to the scam of respectability.

remember that these people oppose trans healthcare for children because giving children agency over their bodies makes it harder for them to get away with preying on them and they see themselves entitled to sexually abusing children

Yeah, there are echoes, but this is much worse. No real effort to persuade the American public or bring along international allies, no backing or buy-in from Congress, no pretense of a noble cause or anything, just one dumb power-mad thug being led to war by another.

I dream of a future where history holds Skrmetti in the same dustbin as it holds Dred Scott

I often wish someone would ask members of this administration what exactly it is they love about this country they claim to love. Because they seem hell-bent on destroying everything I love about it.

all of this. national Dem leadership does not actually want to be at the top of the coalition they are nominally in charge of, and it shows.

Kafkaesque and indicative of a system where skin color determines guilt, and institutional connections determine narrative

Oh look, references to international norms and what other countries do are now back in Supreme Court opinions now that they can be invoked to support the Court majority’s project?

Sotomayor: "The majority subjects a law that plainly discriminates on the basis of sex to mere rational-basis review. By retreating from meaningful judicial review exactly where it matters most, the Court abandons transgender children and their families to political whims. In sadness, I dissent."

🚨 The 2025 Wedge LIVE Cat Tour route map is here. If you know someone on the route, tell them to prepare their cats for viewing on Wednesday, June 25. This year's program at Mueller Park will feature free face painters and cat adoptions courtesy of Minneapolis Animal Care & Control.

It's unclear to me why the US Congressmen are not escorted by big armed cops to push through obstacles to them exercising their legal rights, and instead everyone now defers to the guys with no uniforms or badges or name tags to determine what is and is not legal?

This is actually the second decision from the Roberts court endorsing plessy-like reasoning. The first was Dobbs. bsky.app/profile/jame...

"If trans kids are able to transition, it might be a slippery slope that leads to children freezing their bodies and uploading their consciousnesses to Target’s website to shoplift digital pasta from the Metaverse. I take no pleasure in reporting this."

You could hear her setting this up at oral argument. Being either completely ignorant about a century of trans targeting or cynically feigning ignorance of it. Unconscionable either way.

SCOTUS is on a trajectory to use civil rights laws to discriminate against oppressed groups. The decisions this summer have given legitimacy to “reverse discrimination,” while questioning the realities of oppression. The end of that road is deciding that only dominant groups have civil rights.

I want to circle back to this because several days after the manhunt concluded, I have heard from many friends in areas impacted by the search and I still have a lot to concerns and no answers. Cont.

Completely illegally!

Daaaaaaamn

The reasoning in Skrmetti is just repackaged “every race is punished equally, so nothing to see here” logic that Loving v. Virginia emphatically rejected.

Illinois has enshrined protections to meet this very moment. In a time of increasing overreach and hateful rhetoric, it's more important than ever to reaffirm our commitment to the rights and dignity of the LGBTQ+ community. You have a home here always.

<putting on my professor hat> this derogatory use of “professorial” is too vague to be helpful. Does the writer mean that the musings are abstract, or impractical, or jaded after 30 years of faculty meetings, or wearing socks with sandals in the summer, or something else? Revise and resubmit.

if lander gets charged with resisting or assaulting an officer, remember that the vast majority of these charges are completely made up. cops use them to instill fear and they've been woven into the plea negotiation framework that our criminal legal system operates on for decades.

A lot of warmongers back in the States are trying to tell me I don't understand the Constitution's war powers. Listen, when I want your "expertise," I'll give a special signal, which is me being sectioned under the Mental Health Act. tysm.

anyone who's gonna go "it sucks but you gotta win over people first, slowly build the case for rights" for trans people should tell me, without looking it up, when they think interracial marriage reached majority approval in america

"[T]he out-and-out confrontational confidence of the totally ignorant is, in my experience, gendered. Men explain things to me, and other women, whether or not they know what they're talking about. Some men. Every woman knows what I'm talking about." Rebecca Solnit (2008), Men Explain Things To me.

Thing about the tank truck killing someone while leaving DC.. you can tell few people read the article. Person was supposedly inebriated and wandering in the street. Also welcome to DC where being a pedestrian is like going to war.

know what would be a good idea? a legislative body, say, a Congress

When I logged in to my college's portal today I saw this. Absolute bullshit. And one of our administrators has a side gig helping people maximize their use of AI. We're so fucked.

Gonna level with you bro I think DHS needs to be dissolved after this. Regardless of what national security functions fall under its remit, it's clearly institutionally constructed in such a way allows it to be used as an unaccountable tool of executive power. Can't reform your way out of that.

As a translation for the non-Morms out there when DesNews says you're making Utah look bad, they're saying you're not being a good i̶n̶ g̶r̶o̶u̶p̶ member
