Iβd be grateful if you or anyone reading has suggestions for any sociologists of science who did interesting work on the pandemic and itβs science.
Anyone other than Zeynep that is!

Oh yes I can imagine. I have always felt that there was at least some great phonetic similarity between Japanese and Turkish.

Oh wow that's very interesting! I wouldn't be able to guess how hard it would be in that comparison set.

that aside, i am in awe of the sheer commitment though. it's as good a reason to learn a new language as any that i've heard! they completely deserve all the soapy fun that awaits them (in a good way)!!

the uninitiated would be discombobulated by the amount of emotionally loaded quiet staring that takes place! as if turks ever stop talking to find a moment for quiet emoting irl.

we get to contribute to its making by engaging with others' thinking.

I have personally and academically benefited from every field I have engaged with. There's a wealth of knowledge in philosophy which I find mind boggling. Claims of ownership over knowledge seem like non-epistemic turf wars to me. We are not simply passive recipients of knowledge;

I also hear the same sentiment a lot about qualitative work (π). I believe this type of complaint, when the source is outside of the field, often stems from ignorance and lack of engagement (which requires active effort). And when it's internally sourced, it can be due to field-specific grievances.

this sentiment was fueled by conversations with @penders.bsky.social and with David Peterson who also gave a talk on his ethnographic work on AI and DARPA, which will be published as a chapter in his next book (which is not to be missed).

just don't think that's a sign of a character flaw. it's a perfectly reasonable way to use social media. i block people all the time. maybe not every time for the "objectively" right reason but all for a good reason nonetheless. my whole point is really abt the value of blocking. i'm all for it.
comment in response to

i'm not the one who's blocked you but no i wasn't intending to have a debate about your point. i didn't also say you were acting in bad faith. but everyone is free to make that judgment for themselves and act upon it the way they see fit.

I really don't think debating on social media is ever the smart thing. Blocking is good to avoid bad faith interactions. That has nothing to do with being scared. Just like in real life, you gotta protect your space and time for good stuff. Life is too short to waste.

I'd say American TV is some kind of amphetamine and Turkish TV is definitely from the benzo family.

It is true that Turks like to... exist. As if time is on a standstill.

Not that I'm advocating for this. I am quite ambivalent about the decision tbh. Can foresee many kinds of misuse cases. I've never been a fan of journal-level peer review itself and the reasons for that won't be fixed by transparency of reviews.

That rule applies to food too. I let food happen to me. My mantra was "I am a receptacle for food". Food is love, food is care, food is conversation, food is how Turks exchange emotions. Is it dinner time? Am I hungry? Do I want to have dessert? Some more fruit? Coffee? Tea? There's one answer: YES!

Ikr? I mean we unwittingly dropped in places where high society makes an appearance I suppose. Not all Istanbul is like that. I thought it was funny they specifically called out hubby's sweatpants as unacceptable π€£
