Sad to see that the voters of Truro Boscawen & Redannick have rejected The Guy Who Was A Councillor In Two Places in his attempt to become a councillor in a third place under a different name

I’m sure Parcelforce, pre-privatisation, used to be fairly reliable. Now a veneer of reliability masks its incapability. SMS: parcel coming 11-12. I won’t be in but can redirect to P Off. Great. I select that and get confirmation. Reliably, the driver will turn up at my house with the parcel.

this is genuinely remarkable - www.scotland.police.uk/what-s-happe...

Using a customer service chat function which is clearly AI-driven and was really impressed until this point.

A prime example of the modern overcooked headline. Trying far too hard. Would have been spiked by the last generation of hardened subs (now almost all retired or sacked).

It’s 2014. I tell you: “Yeah so you know the guy who funds the Lib Dems? Paul Marshall? Yeah his son’s in Mumford’s band. Anyway Paul’s going to fund a right-wing culture war TV channel called GB News and his son will pop up at Donald Trump’s White House press room asking for asylum for Brits.”

This is… I don’t know what this is. But it is an incredible read

One of the biggest surprises if you haven't been there for a while is *quite* how cycle-friendly the City of London (the financial district) is now, thanks to ample bike lanes and loads of road closures (see post Steve is QTing). It's extraordinary - I used to cycle happily there every day on Lime.

Londoners, favourable responses please. 250 swing voters in one council ward have blocked something of huge benefit to our whole city for far too long.

Currently in Rome and just walked past an old woman in tears on the phone having a very worried-sounding conversation about papal succession, in case you were wondering how stereotypical this city is

For anyone worrying whether a papal funeral could happen during the Easter octave (I’m sure it was on everyone’s minds), apparently it can as the Mon-Sat are classed as solemnities, but not solemnities of obligation, meaning funeral masses can take place.

Actually fun fact, the two thirds threshold required to elect a Pope is supposedly quite good for guaranteeing that the Pope be a Condorcet winner. You see <everyone falls asleep as I try to explain social choice theory>

Incidentally, if you’d like a slot in Popestakes III*, my predict-the-next-Pope game, drop me a line. (*previous rounds in 2005 and 2013)

Always follow a skinny pope with a fat pope, they say in Rome.

Job plug. Senior PM for our mobile app at Which? It's been on a big journey in the last year, and is now faster, more heavily used, and highly rated than a year ago. But what next? We need someone to join us and help. Financial services experience would be handy. www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/42...

Not saying I would ever support this but a necessary (though not sufficient) precondition would be mandatory re-testing for motorists every 10 years as a condition of licence renewal.
