hoping to touch copious amounts of grass & mostly avoid screens, so i'll probably be around on the app a bit less, but with all the energy in the dev ecosystem right now, it may be hard to avoid 😅 keep building & being badass yall 🙇‍♂️💪

when i come back, i'll be out of operations and fully focused on protocol work we have so much good stuff in the hopper, and i'm very excited to come back and hit the ground running

@bnewbold.net , @divy.zone & @matthieu.bsky.team are going to keep pushing on protocol work in the meantime, and i'll have recurring meetings with them to keep protocol design/development unblocked

😂 got an audible laugh from me

ahaha that's the secret other goal here I'm a firm believer in "AT Protocol" & "Atproto"

If you saw my presentation at AtmosphereConf, you'll recognize a lot of the same points. I actually wrote the rough draft of this article before writing my talk. If you hate long walls of text, you can check out my presentation (with lots of nice emojis & arrows) here:

The goal is to situate atproto in both the current crop of social protocols (without drawing direct comparisons) and the broader history of the web As well, I'm hoping to lay some groundwork around how we think about decentralization, network topology, and power dynamics in the network

yup! lots of good resources there we also have an example app over here: github.com/bluesky-soci... and then just chatting with other devs in the ecosystem. everyone is very friendly & helpful :)

seems like their could be a business model around running a recovery service 👀
comment in response to post
yeah you need a backup or you need to be able to retrieve one from somewhere some data may be able to be retrieved out of the bluesky api tho i imagine it would be lossy. several devs run full network mirrors that may be able to facilitate something like this in a pinch

oh i jumped the gun here's the video from the conference, which I think we can expect to be a more stable link: bsky.app/profile/atpr...

it extends it but doesn't break it. ie none of the actual oauth stuff changes, but authorization servers will need to interpret these scopes in order to grant clients access to them

rip *baked
comment in response to post
Auth scopes has been a surprisingly hairy one Basically OAuth in atproto is already hard because it's n-n Authorization Servers & clients. Auth scopes add another party into the mix: the Application designer who is defining authorization semantics. n-to-n-to-n!

This is a little bit less backed than some of our other proposals, but we really wanted to get our thoughts out ahead of Atmosphere Conf so that we could have some of these discussions in person. Whether you're going to the conference or not, would love to hear thoughts!
