The only proof of its existence is a black and white family photo with the ring visible, affixed to the front of my ancestors coat.
Russia makes things disappear.
America will be its biggest trick yet.

I had *no idea* when I bought it. I donât know what the original gemstone was, only that it sparkled madly under the lamplight, & my great aunt wasnât allowed to touch it, only to look. It would be valuable today.
I suspect my family bartered the ring for safe passage out of Russia, bc itâs lost.

Ironically, on my first trip to Ontario for a film premiere, I bought this ring and bracelet to wear to the premiere.
The ring is almost identical to the description my great aunt wrote in her notes about that time. A gemstone ring, covering a full digit of a finger, encircled with diamonds.

Funny thing is, I learned Russian history in school, and didnât even know my family was a part of it.
Nobody talked about it.
I didnât learn till years later that we had lived there, and fled, in part bc we had been gifted a ring from the czar, on a tour of his lands, for my families hospitality.

Trust me, you donât want to live in survival mode. #IYKYK
It sucks. It leads to isolation bc people donât feel safe. I think it goes hand in hand with trauma, and I think mine is worse than it seems it âshould beâ bc of how many times my family fled for their lives. (Fled/lost everything 5x, min.)

I have a theory about #trauma & #adhd / #autism (read Gabor MatĂ©) bc of my familyâs trauma history (and my own intergenerational, hereditary trauma).
Hyper awareness of surroundings is very useful if/when things go sideways. But if we let men like trump/elon lead, weâll stay stuck in survival mode.

Seeing loud trucks roaring around alberta neighborhoods with flags in the boxes and propaganda on the sides the last few years triggered something deep in my dna.
That primal anxiety, that sense of recognition of people who wonât listen to reason, who donât see others as human⊠I was born with it.

My grandfather and his parents and siblings fled Russia not so very long ago, bc my great grandfather was on a list. Other family didnât make it out, and were killed. The regime has changed, but the people are still not free.
Fight like hell America. You donât want what trump wants.

Iâve had Learn to Let Go (feenixpawl remix, by Kesha) for awhile now but might swap to Va Va Voom by Nicky Minaj today.
I have probably a weird workout mix, but I like it. Best song to get moving is Boujé (J Perry feat. Shabba). Yes, I got it from Cars 3 #momlife but there is no better dance song.

Iâve said that so many times before. And itâs been so hard to do here. Like, in the arena with the lions feels like such a bad time to figure out who you really want to be.
But if youâre stuck in the arena, and youâre a âgood, quiet girlâ you need to figure it out to survive and get out.

I just thought to myself âI probably shouldnât have access to a public posting space like this.â I worry that I ramble, and it will turn people away. The truth is, Iâve been utterly invisible for the better part of a decade. And for me, that is a fate worse than death. Itâs time for me to change.

One small step at a time. One moment of unbridled rage at a vicious injustice. One moment of putting men in womenâs shoes (literally and emotionally). One choice to let go of someone elseâs âshouldâ and be more of my own self. To hold pain as a trophy rather than a weight. To aspire. To achieve.

Sheâs a smart mouthed, give zero fucks, badass, vigilante-type with a monstrously cool superpower and a soft spot for the underdog.
I aspire to let go of the âcontrolledâ, âperfectâ, âalways pleasantâ facade I was groomed to reflect, and honestly make a scene and fuck some shit up, like she would.

Itâs a challenge to create in a place where #creativity is frivolous nonsense at best, and progressive ideas are evil at worst.
And my favorite character would be considered evil here. Sheâs "âŠlike fire and ice and rage⊠like the night and the storm and the heart of the sun⊠ancient and forever.â

I have loved, and still love, unique stories and unique characters. I love seeing them. I especially love creating them, writing backstory, weaving the âwhyâ that explains who they are.
I hope someday I might be able to introduce you to a few of them, one in particular. She is incredible.

I had never seen anything like it before, and it changed me, and gave me so much hope to see a future that looked, and felt, nothing like my present.
The only other work thatâs affected me so deeply is Anne McCaffreyâs Dragonriders of Pern series. â€ïž Menolly, Lessa, Moreta, Robinton.

I still remember sitting down to watch tv with my family, and as my dad flipped stations (we had three and one was fuzzy) I saw a starship suspended in space, and heard the empty space sound. #IYKYK

#MajelRoddenberryBarrett would make top three in a âWho would you choose if you could meet anyone for dinner, living or dead?â
My âgreat auntâ, whom I suspect was possibly gay or trans, would be on that list. Iâd love to get clarification, use proper pronouns, and show acceptance they never got.

Intentionally using the word âtotesâ next to âmaybe old and uncool?â hashtag ftw.
Donât forget kids, youâre standing on the shoulders of *my* generation who, like, *literally* made the #interwebs cool. And, we brought you into this world, we can take you out of it. #OldPeopleJokes #Psych
