I wish I loved anything as much as social media posters love spreading clearly fake videos that can be debunked with a mere few seconds of due diligence.

A few words about “peaceful protests.” 1. At least 5% of people are uncontrollable assholes and will behave badly in any situation, let alone a high-tension one. So a large protest without ANYONE throwing shit, yelling slurs or for violence, etc. is likely not achievable. /1

Progressive activists no longer have a considerable amount of influence on Twitter because the site has been reengineered to promote paying users and people who agree with Elon Musk. This has been reported on extensively and is obvious to users left of center.

“Ninety-two percent of the targeted Medicaid recipients already work, are in school, have family caregiving responsibilities or have disabilities.” The proposed work requirements have nothing to do with waste, they are designed to cut enrollment through paperwork. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/08/o...

I was arrested by the LAPD for protesting in 2016. I'm pretty sure they let me out early because I was annoying. So that might be useful information

No country has ever been destroyed by migrants just wanting a better life for their family. Many though have been destroyed by authoritarianism and fascism.

The guard in LA could be the start of a fascist power grab, yes. It could also be a massive overplaying of a bad hand by a president who had the worst week of his term, and an immigration czar who was publicly humiliated and is desperate to goose his numbers. We don't know yet.

Trump’s crimes are much more serious than those of anyone ICE is picking up

I know one thing. If I were a young blonde, white woman, and a police officer shot me ON CAMERA, my settlement would be large enough to have its own itemized line on LA's yearly budget.

Really Cool how nobody wanted to take this shit seriously

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

Will the mainstream media stand in solidarity with reporters being brutalized by Trump's goons or will they push "violent protests and blue city anarchy!" stories? I think it will be telling!

this is what the Roberts Court licensed when it was presented with a case called Trump v USA and ruled against USA

The weird, often whitewashed way the civil rights movement is taught (or not taught) seemed to convince a lot of people that nonviolence was met with nonviolence, instead of you know, dogs, hoses, beatings, death, etc

not the main issue here but i'd really appreciate it if democratic politicians spoke out in support of big-city life and culture with the same energy and reverence that all politicians have for small towns los angeles is "real america" and so are all the other big cities the president hates

There are more real Americans in LA than in all of Montana.

As someone who lives in Los Angeles, don’t let social or mainstream media gaslight you into thinking there’s a violent uprising taking place here. The Trump administration is trying to punish this state and this city. He’s also setting a precedent to unleash troops on Democratic cities.

The administration has declared war on certain parts of the country directly and they are also intent in murdering their supporters in rural towns. That's what's happening. THAT is the story but there is no mainstream press to cover it. Instead we get stories about college kids being too censorious.

There is no fucking reason for any of this shit. Nobody was threatened by immigrants. They were working for a living like the rest of us, not hurting anybody. The whole thing is BULLSHIT. Pure fear-mongering BULLSHIT. Lies intended to promote a fascist dictatorship.

Have you even THOUGHT about how your posts are going to increase shareholder value one day? Disgusting creatures, posting pictures of dogs, how dare you? How dare you not think of which dog brings the most shareholder value?

JOURNALISTS IN LA or COVERING FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT: Press rights groups are trying to coordinate responses to unlawful attacks by federal officers against journalists during protests. If you can help ID individuals in charge of operations (incident commander, etc.) & contact info please LMK.

Yes every conservative social media site becomes a tropical rainforest of school shooters and Ponzi schemes but did you know that there is a left-wing social media site where people are rude to the nation’s center-right political pundits

desperately need the press to describe what is actually happening here in LA instead of accepting the Trump framing of riots this is a deliberately provocative assault on an American city by out of control state forces who are here to terrorize people

They will invent the pretext unless we’re so thoroughly supine they don’t need to, which leads to the same outcome.

"it's not peaceful for people to be on the highway" -LA Mayor Karen Bass right now. This is what I mean when I say the word "peaceful" as applied to protesters is about prescribing placidity, not nonviolence. Calmly marching on a freeway is pretty inarguably nonviolent. " Peaceful" you can debate

yep. this is why it is criminally negligent that so many official Dem accounts are still posting to Vichy Twitter first

I'm sorry but this is hilarious there is a blue dinosaur bumbling around in front of the National Guard at the LA "riots." Absolutely humiliate these fuckers please. Come and play the tuba.

you mean violence from ICE, the National Guard, and Border Patrol, right? because that’s the violence we’re seeing right now

Rounding up people at Home Depot looking for day work and small local restaurants means you're not raiding the factories, meat packing plants, and job sites of big Republican donors.

You know when things were pretty quiet and peaceful in L.A.? Before ICE started arresting residents who were bothering no one and going to their jobs. And before DHS and National Guard troops showed up and made the situation worse. Of course Trump and Stephen Miller want the situation to get worse.

Also: who exactly is "pumping the brakes" beyond the occasional round of congressional platitudes? these guys live in a fictional America where 90% of legislation isn't being written by the 30 biggest companies to explicitly codify lax oversight or monopolization

Wrong, #NYTimes. In fact: "Trump Provocatively and Violently Cracks Down on Law-Abiding Immigrant Workers in L.A., Triggering Growing Pro-U.S. Constitution Resistance" @pabloreports.bsky.social @extremearturo.bsky.social @reichlinmelnick.bsky.social

Just in case you weren't sure... I've been in Los Angeles for the last four days and I promise you... the city hasn't fallen. Chaos isn't happening. I went to an Angel City FC match last night, it was a lot of fun. I had lunch downtown today... no fires...

"Mass deportation" is the excuse and trigger for authoritarianism. As it was always intended to be.

It isn’t true. People who want a buffet of obscure ideologies don’t lack for options here. People who are seeking connections to state power and mainstream celebrity through social media, on the other hand, will probably still prefer twitter.

Please read this headline and remember to never, ever take Andreessen seriously.
