The problem is USians are apathetic. I can't tell you how many times I will talk to folks, and they will say some version of "we will never be able to affect meaningful change" We tend to believe that none of us are capable and so it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. 1/3

I just…have my suspicions about the revolutionary capacity of a left-wing population who abandoned disabled and high-risk people at the drop of a hat for an assurance of their own normality. But it’s not to late to fix that particular choice (except for all the dead and disabled people who can’t)

This needs saying. Within living memory it was literally illegal to be trans in public. Within living memory queer communities faced a horrific genocide. Within my lifetime anti-queer violence was far, far more widespread. People fought anyway. Do not assume all is lost. We do not have the luxury.

If your job is to disseminate information about the fuckery that Trump is up to, yet you are not using alt text on images pertaining to this information, then you are contributing to the problem. Alt-text = access Stop contributing to blocking disabled people out of society

To say that the violence Trump seeks to inflict is *performative* is not to say that it is not real, or that it does not have catastrophic consequences. Rather, it is to point out that his chief goal is to terrorize, to demoralize. Therefore, refusing to be cowed materially thwarts his strategy.

While you fight, make time to dance

I’m sorry but I need to yell about this: That “Who Goes MAGA?” article devotes 3 paragraphs to inventing a hypothetical fascist closeted trans woman. Tacky, stereotypical, arguably offensive.

Repeat after me: Ablism is a system of supremacy for disciplining and controlling the whole of society.

Anyone can become disabled in an instant, you could wake up disabled tomorrow. The ease with which you will be discarded will be shocking. Not just from society at large, but also from friends and family. If you are abled you should be angry about the rampant ableism, because you're on bided time

Watched like 10 min of the RFK hearing and I can’t overemphasize how dangerous it is that so many of the people in power think that disabled people are inherently bad for society and protecting us hurts “healthy” people.

Incredibly important interview with @margaret.bsky.social and former political prisoner Eric King. Trump is pushing for trans people to be moved into different prisons, a death sentence for many. Eric maps out ways that people can organize and support those on the inside.

If this administration reminds of nothing else, it makes clear something I say all the time: race is the central organizing feature of American politics and American life. Nothing else comes close. These fools can’t even talk about a tragic plane crash without talking about “DEI.”

Mobility aids aren't "giving up". They're an enabler. They help keep people going and as independent as possible for as long as possible. Actually, more people should be using them, and they'd stay healthier and more mobile for longer if they did.

If only #alttext users could see this hilarious “gotcha” but you didn’t use #alttext so their screen reader comes up empty. You can expand your journalism to greater than 13,000 people by utilizing Blueskys #AltText feature. Some of them may even have leads for you @kenklippenstein.bsky.social.

LRS: one of the most common things I encountered doing disability education was a lack of understanding of what the ADA is, isn’t, does, and does not do. Primarily, it’s about access. Prior to the ADA, public buildings did not have to provide things like a way in or bathrooms.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: If disabled people aren't included in your revolution, it's not a true revolution.

The want disabled people demoralized, detained, or better yet dead. This is our future, we must resist. Wear a mask, lest you join our ranks. Post viral illness complications are a very common way people become chronically ill.

My personal life is in shambles. Do everything you can not to get critically ill right now, especially if Portland Providence is your only option. But also just in going forward, things are going to get a whole lot tougher for Disabled people.

Disabled people are victims of US capitalism, and available to show up & do the work. But many of them missed your message @erininthemorning.com because you refuse to use #AltText for vision impaired users and others who use #screenreaders. ACT UP showed up for disabled queer people. Will you?

🚨 220/1650$ Pass the hat. Support a Trans safe house & the breadwinner who is on recovery after receiving her FFS. We are 13% of the way to her required expense.

DEI isn’t just about race and gender. It also includes: • Disability • Neurodivergence • Veterans • People over 40 I truly hope people in these groups are hired based on merit. After all, imagine hiring someone simply because of privilege, and not because they earned it.

With the freezing of funds for the SNAP program, a lot of Americans are going to go hungry. Consider donating to mutual aid, give to community fridges, make a meal for a friend or drop off groceries to someone in need. If you’re able to, be a helper. We need more helpers right now.

For every executive order, bill or funding cut that targets marginalized people, let’s counter with an act of kindness. Cut SNAP funding? Give to a community fridge Cut PrEP funding? Give to AIDS organizations. Mask bans? Wear a mask! Attacks on trans rights? Amplify trans creators.

Why do many disabled people urge you to wear a mask? Because we know how the system works. Viruses can disable you and once you become disabled, doctors won't listen to you, you'll have to fight to receive any assistance, and you'll get denied over and over again. We want you to mask to spare that.

Democrats and the media "must" must must must Okay. Anyway, given that they won't---that they have no will to resist and have built zero capacity to resist, and "law" is a silly illusion---the question is what can organize rank-and-file libs into preparing to actually resist in the coming world.

It is rather clear from the willingness of some people to join in the renormalisation of the r-slur that plainly some of you just never understood why we were asking you to stop engaging in some of the cruelties you like to engage in.

Patients who wear a mask to access healthcare are NOT anxious. Hospital acquired COVID has a 10% fatality rate. Many of us are already severely chronically ill. There’s a pandemic that is airborne and currently ongoing. Adapting to a threat is not anxiety, it’s a justified, rational response

A good thing to do with people who try to normalize this slur, as with all slurs, is to kick them in the teeth.

Hey #CripCoop! Happy to be here and help. Things I can do currently, reposting and boosting. Things I'd love to work on in the future, when I'm through my little life hiccup. Setting up more mutual aid networks, creating a zine, sharing writing, fundraising, proofreading/editing, research, and more

Just received notice that my NIH study section next week has been cancelled. It has nothing to do with DEI and will have a negative impact on critical cancer research.

While I am here I will say this: Remember there is still joy, remember there is still beauty, remember there are people that care. Connect to networks of supportive individuals, we can't survive this alone. Remember love is an action, it's not a passive sentiment.

There is something deeply difficult going on in my personal life that does not allow me to be engaged with the larger horrors going on since the inauguration. I have been white knuckling my personal life since the start of the month, and things are only getting worse with every headline

The world could be a much better place if i were allowed to challenge politicians to single combat.

ADA investigations & cases currently paused as per new administration. Federal employees hired under accessibility programs are to be put on paid leave & then laid off. The CDC, NIH and FDA are barred from communicating information to the public. Will the ADA be next? 🧵

Hey a great way to start organzing and protect your community is to wear an N95 or better as were in a "quademic." No one is saving you if you become disabled. Community organizing regularly leaves disabled people for dead. Actively pursue anti-ableist organaizing.

As Proud Boy leaders are released by the Trump administration, here's a good explainer on the group, the big tent they created with neo-Nazis and white nationalists, their push for street violence, and the roots of their paleoconservative ideology. itsgoingdown.org/unite-the-ri...
