This is probably the worst outcome for DOGE. Elon stepping away completely would allow someone who isn't Elon to actually run the organisation. This just means that DOGE spends three or four days a week guessing What Would Elon Do, which is probably even crazier than what Elon actually would do.

A good test of the moral & political stability of a movement is whether it has - on it's periphery - people who don't really agree with every tenet of the group but kinda agree with a lot and rub along to get along. "Oh yeah, that's Bob. He drinks with us but he doesn't come to events.".

A dynamic on here is that subgroups often come to a quick, morally sure and somewhat radical consensus on a given topic and then interpret all actions that don't fit in that consensus as not merely wrong, but a deliberate defiance of the group. I think that is the true danger of an echo chamber.

Transphobia is such an effective onboarding for bigotry because it basically lets you express misogyny and homophobia in a more socially acceptable form and then the biological essentialism pretty clearly opens you up to racism and xenophobia
