I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012. Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place. A thread.

i think INTERSTELLAR is a bona fide masterpiece — maybe nolan's greatest film — and i'm not at all ashamed to say that i weep every time i watch it.

NEW: Bluesky has seen massive growth in the weeks following the US election. There are 24 million users on the social media platform. With great engagement comes great responsibility, which means Bluesky CEO @jay.bsky.team has a lot to do. She sat down with WIRED to talk about it.

Beating Real Madrid and City in the same week. Am I dreaming? #LFC #Liverpool

for my next newsletter and episode i bought the bestselling laptop on Amazon to try and explain how shitty most people's exposure to tech is. Currently at 30 minutes of menus and updates. I have agreed to three privacy policies and created two new accounts. We live in hell

We could go on about how we welcome publishers, we don't demote links, we encourage independent developers to build apps and extensions on top of Bluesky's network.... but instead, we'll show you. All thanks to the incredible community here! 🦋

This and Oblivion tops out as my favourite Tom Cruise movies.

still one of my all time favorite movies the way I sell it, based on how someone feels about Tom Cruise: if you like Tom Cruise, he’s great it it and if you hate Tom Cruise you get to watch him die dozens of times over there’s something in there for everyone

Anyway here’s a cheerful piece about how the Sun will eventually destroy all life on Earth (but not by exploding, so, you know, there’s that)

For those going home to visit family this weekend: • Samsung calls it Auto Motion Plus • LG calls it TruMotion • Sony calls it Motionflow • Roku calls it Action Smoothing • Google TV calls it Motion Enhancement • Vizio calls it Smooth Motion Effect.

Some news: amid rapid growth and some over-enforcement of its community guidelines, Bluesky trust and safety chief @aaron.bsky.team tells me the company will quadruple the size of its content moderation team www.platformer.news/bluesky-grow...

On some level we've always known he's a dweeb but this takes the cake. 😂

Social media is in desperate need of innovation. Meta is only letting you have a slice of control over what you see because Bluesky is here building for you.

a year ago, @knguyen.bsky.social, @sarahjeong.bsky.social, and i nearly lost our minds reading through tens of thousands of tweets in an effort to preserve and compile the funniest, weirdest, and most memorable ones for a package called “the year twitter died” www.theverge.com/c/23972308/t...

While Bluesky looks like other social apps on the surface, it’s actually quite different. It’s an open network. I blogged about it here:

My current custom feeds flow: 1. Best of Follows 2. Quiet Posters 3. Mutuals 4. Discover 5. Following & Replies Sometimes I'll skip Discover, but this flow feels like it keeps me up to date with my network way better than any FY I've used. Any custom feeds y'all think will do a better job?

Kendrick Lamar's new gnx album is a thing of beauty.

Looks like the perfect opportunity for a director to film the ending of a chaotic fight scene.

pretty much everything new people here are asking for have existed for at least a year here, you just need to know to go looking for them. for this, log into @skyfeed.app and have it make you a notifications feed that's just whatever you want it to be. then subscribe to that feed. done!

Tale as old as time itself.

Bluesky explained in 60 seconds!

Bluesky now has over 20M people!! 🎉 We've been adding over a million users per day for the last few days. To celebrate, here are 20 fun facts about Bluesky:

we did it! 🥳

What I love about this Officially Verified Bluesky Press Lists is it includes a real mix of people at major legacy media outlets, independent organizations, and freelancers. We can promote a diverse media when billionaires don't control what you see. Let's keep it growing! go.bsky.app/U9juDW4

We don't have to hide your likes list. You'll probably like what your favorite people like, right? If you prefer private storage, there are Bookmarks. https://tokimeki.blue

Bluesky is booming partly because it isn't hindered by bad adtech, AI slop, throttled links, and largely hostile user experiences, unlike some of its big rivals (Brian Merchant/Blood in the Machine) Main Link | Techmeme Permalink

US lawyers will reportedly try to force Google to sell Chrome and unbundle Android. It’s part of a DOJ case that aims to break up Google’s search monopoly by targeting Chrome, Android, and AI Overviews www.theverge.com/2024/11/18/2...

Interesting start from the Chiefs 😏

Went on Threads earlier and the algo feed is nothing but brands posting the most cringe worthy stuff. Somehow it's reversed back into that just two days of me being away off it.

Would love for the @openvibe.social team to add an option to disable autoplaying GIFs and motion video.

This is the simple fact the echo chamber nonsense misses. Some of us are just looking for a place to follow up to the news, funny quips and interesting project pages. We aren't looking for debates and sure as hell aren't looking for whatever meta wants creators to pivot to.

The trick to garlic bread is to make at least 5 times too much of it then eat it all hunched over in the corner of the basement like a rat

Seth's tool now lets you convert a starter pack into either a regular (content) list or a block (moderation) list! Thanks, @wandrme.paxex.aero

We call them “posts”

Took Parker's recommendation and I'm trying out Openvibe right now. Threads and Starter Packs on Bluesky support is quite limited but it's a really nice app.
