Powerful new Washington Post story up... wapo.st/426d9fT (Gift link) 1/n

Trump in PANIC over Signalgate.. hence going after Smithsonian and another law firm. STAY FOCUSED.

It’s not the hypocrisy that bothers me; it’s the stupidity. We’re all shocked — shocked! — that President Trump and his team don’t actually care about protecting classified information or federal record retention laws. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/28/o...

Countdown to an epic new pre-print. Mitochondria are cells within our cells. They need the same core activities - replication, transcription, translation. How do cells enable these diverse activities in both compartments? We uncover an unexpected + broad strategy with ancient origins. Stay tuned!

Thank you for this excellent thread on a very interesting question! Can’t wait to read the paper! 🙏👏🏻

The DNA in our cells is not naked but instead is compacted by being wrapped around nucleosomes assembled from histone proteins. In our current view, this produces the chromatin architecture that leaves some regions open for transcription while others are more compacted & transcriptionally silent 1/n

Could quote many points but this is a good summary: “DNA is not fate. 23andMe was trading on ignorance of how the genome actually works, and perpetuating a deterministic view of genetics that is outmoded and wrong”

In which a do not lament the decline of 23andMe. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Yup

We are in the midst of what many consider the most promising pancreatic cancer cure research in decades. This is literally joining the War on Cancer on the side of cancer. It's happening in multiple departments. They're also attacking mRNA fax science which is the heart of the possible breakthrough.

Uh oh the Trump administration accidentally added us to their group chat

It will never be enough. The goal is to break the University, not have them meet demands. Taunting Columbia with the hope of compliance just sweetens the pot with humiliation.

Yes, and: imitating his commander in order to gain approval

Everything I’ve accomplished, I’ve done with a sore voice at the back of my head telling me I’m not enough. Not smart, insightful, eloquent, pretty &c enough. I know it’s not true. Knowing doesn’t make it silent. But I can ignore it. Act in spite of it. I know what I want. Stumbling is still moving

Can we place a moratorium on “our results shed light on” and “we sought to glean information…” Thank you

Here are some nice mushrooms

I applied to two graduate school. Columbia basically shredded my application. They didn’t even process it. @newmarkjplus.bsky.social accepted me. I’m so THANKFUL I went to CUNY (City University of New York) Columbia can afford to stand up to Trump.

Good morning. Republicans want to throw millions of people off Medicaid so they can give a new giant tax cut for billionaires and corporations. Their plan: $1.1 trillion in cuts to Medicaid and food assistance to afford $1.1 trillion in tax giveaways for the richest 1%.

Wow—- ok!

Also : people seeking asylum all come from “mental institutions “—- there is a confusion here too

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center is a major NIH-supported hospital and research center in Seattle. And NIH funds many essential clinical trials that cannot be supported by the private sector. This is devastating.

La présidente du Conseil italien, qui prétendait établir un «pont» avec Donald Trump, peine à prendre l’initiative. Et paraît surtout incapable de prendre ses distances vis-à-vis de Washington. →https://l.lefigaro.fr/GhM

Is it “so few superstars” or is the problem that they are not being listened to??

I don’t understand the details but this seems interesting and important re: AI in medicine

In case we were in doubt about how the Framers viewed multilingual-ism, it's possible that the first *printed* copy of the Declaration of Independence was actually in German, published July 5th, 1776. The English version wasn't distributed until July 6th. 9% of Americans in 1776 spoke German.
