Is there some sort of central database for arboretum inventories? If I wanted to find a bunch of individuals across a buttload of species, might there be something I can explore first before making contacts?

And here it is, my Joker moment. I am insane now.

Hear Conservation Science @dlnarango.bsky.social on Cultivating Pollinator and Songbird Conservation with Native Plants at the Montshire this coming Tuesday, 2/25. #vermont Free and open to all. montshire.org/programs/for...

Help our Flocks Project take flight! We all need a space to feel we belong & are supported. This is what our Flocks Project—our joint effort with Wilson Ornithological Society & Association of Field Ornithologists—aims to do for ornithologists. Donate today! www.gofundme.com/f/flocks-for...

Cribbed from LinkedIn.

I feel like I'm going insane every time I see a media story about DOGE that doesn't also mention the fact that the Government Accountability Office exists and performs the exact function that DOGE pretends to, only in a credibly constitutional, non-partisan, and conflict-of-interest-free manner

By time I finished college I had read all of Tom Robbin’s books several times over. They were a defining part of growing up and learning how to question the world. RIP outlaw. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/09/o...

nothing like having a paper in review for 7 MONTHS.... ....only to have a paper sent to me for review that uses the same approach. 😔

To probationary federal employees who have been terminated: Democracy Forward has filed a first-of-its-kind class-wide complaint with the Office of Special Counsel. If civil servants want to join in the complaint, you can email [email protected]

The snow never ends but at least we have grosbeaks 💛

I know I need to review papers but.... .....dang I get really sick of "To our knowledge, no one has ever done this study before" when there are decades of papers looking at the same questions.

Scooplet: The US Fish and Wildlife Service has issued stop work orders, frozen funding, and ceased communication for all of its international grants, jeopardizing critical conservation overseas. Much of this money is appropriated for Interior, not foreign aid. www.vox.com/down-to-eart...

And in one of the expensive areas in the country. This is what they did to 2000 employees

Dear federal scientists: If you have been affected by the probationary firings and would be willing to speak with Science, please reach out to me by email ([email protected]) or on Signal. We can guarantee annonymity.

Last year our spatial science intern, Eli Byington, produced a story map on the West Virginia White to help community scientists monitor this elusive species. We just learned her entry was selected as a finalist in the 2024 ArcGIS storymap competition! Visit this link to vote! lnkd.in/gJqanhid

what a coincidence this is how I feel today!

This is why I’m a scientist. (Pugaporcinus)

Academics, telling an early-career scientist that "ecological data is complex & needs to be cleaned and managed prior to analyzing it" is probably a bad look. I mean, I dunno, if I was talking to a peer who works w/ larger datasets, I wouldn't jump to the assumption that's something they don't know

Tesla paid $0 in federal income tax last year. 2022: $0 2021: $0 2020: $0 2019: $0 2018: $0 Tesla reported $6.7 billion in profit in those years.

Second mentee submission! This one’s on comparing flower use by bumble bees with community-collected and systematic methods. Is there a difference? Let’s find out!

Proposal submission day! 🥂Here’s to hoping someone else likes my pie in the sky ideas

How many of us have 1000 browser tabs open that are just your email over and over again? (sprinkled with papers you hope to read....one day.....)

If you were wondering what it’s like to live in Vermont 🍁….snow squalls this morning on the mountain 🌨️🌨️🌨️🌨️

During covid I started annotating species interactions on iNaturalist. I thought it was fun, so I started the “Pollinator Interactions on Plants” project in 2022 to amp up data collection for the Northeast. 3 years later this Common Drone Fly represents observation #200,000! (Photo:erikamitchell)

An unelected shadow government is conducting a hostile takeover of the federal government. DOGE is not a real government agency. DOGE has no authority to make spending decisions. DOGE has no authority to shut programs down or to ignore federal law. DOGE’s conduct cannot be allowed to stand.

First presentation abstract submitted by a mentee from my lab…and it’s on designing community science projects with equity in mind. 🥹 so proud!!

As someone who has been a part of ManyAuthorPapers, (and not included, because I didn’t ’opt-in’, despite contributing) I agree with so much of this. Good advice for efficiency.

I give public talks about native plants, yard conservation, and environmental stewardship all the time…probably to the detriment of my own career. If the answer is no because it’s too short of a turnaround, the answer is no. I don’t like to be made to feel like an asshole. 🥵

What’s his beef against USAID in particu….oh. Wow.

I’d say this coup is part of a plot to funnel government spending through his garbage website…but that would be the plot of a shitty sci-fi movie….right???
