My experience in a PDX "Neighborhood Association", same: "We have a neighborhood association. I’ve attended meetings. I’ve participated. But we have a couple of “always say no” voices who shut down most new ideas. I find it exhausting. I don’t want to fight. I just want to be helpful. So I drifted."

Portland, OR is doing a pilot program to plant trees in the "curb zone" in a single-family area, in places where underground utilities allow it. www.portland.gov/transportati...
Unfortunately, in much of city the (methane) gas supply pipes run parallel to the curb, 1.5m out in the street!

they used to offer you cash, or a credit that was a higher amount than the cash. But I was trying to get rid of books, not just exchange them, so I always took the cash. They're not doing that now?

Last ODOT studied this they were to lower 11th/12th under the tracks. Raising or lowering the tracks would be a 2-3 mile-long track and bridge project.

Well, the gate was locked at 7:00 PM, & you had to go let latecomers in. My friend had some rented "educational films" and projector. Folks brought sleeping bags and we gathered in the "amphitheater" to watch 1960s 16mm educational films the host had found at a library. refreshments were consumed.

I was part of a group that rented an overnight campout stay (they lock the gate behind you!) in a city park/ex Nike missle site (Hopkins Winderness Park) in Redondo Beach, CA.

The new (double mast arm) pole could have been placed 15' west, along the Jefferson curb, and not blocked the corner for walkers. (about where that short parking sign was) Yes would have needed a longer arm.

I don't understand what was wrong with the existing ramp. What changed in ADA? Max slope? min. width? I hear that the city doesn't do the curb-sided ramps (which save trees & lawn), because "some people" complain that they can't mow that lawn with their lawnmower. (They can't keep it on the curb?)

But who put in the new sidewalk, and planted street trees, along the 14th frontage, seemingly in 2024? I would hope the project would be able to preserve the large street trees on Ankeny and on Burnside, but that doesn't seem likely.

Large radius corners (a) should not exist, or (b) should prohibit right on red. Otherwise drivers will pull 20’ forward to be able to see oncoming traffic to make a RTOR.

Having grown up in a conservative San Diego in the 1960s, where they thought flouridated water was a "communist plot" (and thus didn't add it to water), I had a mouth full of cavities, and innumerable fillings, and am still dealing with the results.

Several builders have lined the grnd flr with live-work units. Hawthorne, S side, 44th-45th, with 3 or 4 retail uses (salons, etc), and 4975 Division has these on two sides (+ a corner retail). While yes, most spaces have closed blinds, active use is not precluded. Child care is possible currently?

These are mostly if not all being built as individual houses for sale (with zero lot lines, and utility and access easements). AFAIK.

Most if not all housing built under these regulations has been for-sale, not rentals. The four plexes are technically on four small lots, with access and utility easements. They could be condos, but the condo-liability issue makes individual lots (albeit zero-lot-line) more attractive.

I don't like bioswales that eliminate places where trees could be planted. I see 75' long swales with no trees in them. True of either "furnishing zone" swales or "parking lane" swales. We know they can interrupt them with trees, because sometimes they do.

They might put a painted pipe at the right level, hanging by chains, so people'd bump into it if too high. But that's too subtle. They'd drive in anyway. So, weld a steel beam at the correct height at the entrance to actually block too-high vehicles.
