The AHA, along with the ACLS and the MLA, have filed a lawsuit to restore the programming and institutional integrity that have been stripped away from the NEH. Announcement and PDF of filing in district court are here: www.historians.org/news/america...

Let’s please make sure that our community has ACCURATE information? I understand the concern but let’s be strategic and on point in identifying imminent threats. Please circulate. @esglaude.bsky.social www.si.edu/newsdesk/rel...

Y’all! My book is available for pre order now from @uncpress.bsky.social So excited! uncpress.org/book/9781469...

Alexis Herman, the first Black American to serve as U.S. Secretary of Labor, has passed away, a source close to her family told me. She was 77.

I feel personally disrespected

The Texas legislature is considering a bill to give themselves direct oversight over the content of college courses at public universities & And planning to prevent faculty from having a role in traditional shared governance. It will likely undermine public higher education there. #FAFO

I'm sorry, what??

This whole piece is great but this paragraph especially:

They want you to think boycotts and protests don’t work. 71% drop in income says otherwise. Keep going.

Breaking News: Pope Francis is dead at 88. The first Latin American and Jesuit pontiff, he championed a more inclusive Catholic Church.

Winter has returned to Oklahoma. I had big plans to go write in my office this afternoon. I prefer to stay in my warm bed instead. Maybe the sun will come out soon?🥴

I don’t know how or why I was able to connect some of Thomas Jefferson’s austerity measures to DOGE during yesterday’s lecture. 🥴 I was ashamed for the rest of the day. 🤦🏾‍♂️

I was supposed to talk about this today at Radio France International but as I explained, my position is the same as the Foundation I'm a member of. The report we at the Foundation submitted to the French Gov is pretty clear on what needs to be done! www.theguardian.com/world/2025/a...

This Day in Labor History: April 17, 1937. Tobacco workers in Richmond, Virginia went on strike in what became pioneering civil rights labor organizing in the South, laying the groundwork for the rise of the Black labor struggle after World War II. Let's talk about this little known action!!!

If the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.

Harvard will not comply. “No government — regardless of which party is in power — should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue.” — Harvard President Alan M. Garber www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

I actually don't agree. Historically speaking, the "criminal" label has been used specifically to dehumanize, control, and repress Black people. It has little to do with their actual conduct, and the law and its enforcers will do their best to smear the subjects of enforcement.

This morning, thinking intently about the ethics of memorializing prisoners. #BookRabbitholes

The Supreme Court has ruled, temporarily at least, and perhaps permanently, that the United States government can deport anyone, including a US citizen, to a foreign country and then maroon them there on the grounds that they no longer have control of them. Fascism is here.

I can only imagine the bailout package they are drawing up for themselves. As the saying goes, privatize the profits, and socialize the losses.

Quite literally whitewashing the purpose of the Underground Railroad www.washingtonpost.com/investigatio...

Haven’t had a cold in years. This one seems to be taking me out. 🥹 I have coughed so much that I now have clearly defined abs…and an irrepressible headache. Big wins amidst some minor losses though. 🤭🤷🏾‍♂️

I will not look at my retirement account today. I will not look at my retirement account today. I will not look at my retirement account today. I will not look... [peeks] I will find a nice cardboard box by the beach. I will find a nice cardboard box by the beach. I will find...

A nasty cold in April is indeed the work of Satan…and Trump. 🤭😂 #sick

Periodic reminder that the original cowboys in the Americas were black, and were not in the US, but started 3 centuries before in Hispaniola, and then in Mexico, in Venezuela, and in Argentina. The US, as always, arriving late but pushing its way to the front.

OTD: April 3, 1911: President William Howard Taft expels an all-Black calvary unit from San Antonio for protesting racial segregation. Local officials claimed the soldiers threatened “law and order” by protesting Jim Crow. 👀 #BlackTexasHistory #BlackHistory #AmericanHistory

The “methods for doing so” are (1) getting two thirds of Congress and three fourths of the states to repeal the 22nd Amendment and (2) declaring himself king. That’s it. Stop treating this despotic bullshit as if it’s some worthwhile thought experiment we have to consider as legitimate.

How do you transform lies into truth? By erasing the VERY REAL past.

X is not worth 33 billion. He basically just paid himself $33B from another company, presumably to pay off his debts from the initial buy because he knows he'll never be able to raise the capital from X itself. He is his own ponzi scheme.

Confession: I had some terrible crawfish in OKC yesterday. I should have listened to my intuition. 🤦🏾‍♂️ I am missing Houston today. Real bad.

He fired the black chairman of the joint chiefs for being woke and hired his brother.

This! These are perilous times for the profession. We must not cede any(more) ground! Let’s fight!!

When scholars of authoritarianism and fascism leave U.S. universities because of the deteriorating political situation here, we should really worry.

Vance, Hegseth, Trump shit on the intelligence and accomplishment of Black people for sport all as a way of confirming for white Americans the myth that the dumbest, most incompetent, most morally reprehensible white men are preferable to the most decent, prepared, hard-working Black person.

Once again, if you voted for Trump because you thought he'd lower your grocery bills, I have some very bad news for you. news.bloomberglaw.com/internationa...

“But where says some is the King of America?…in America THE LAW IS THE KING.” Thomas Paine, COMMON SENSE (1776)

Been frozen and snowed in here in Oklahoma. Sun’s out and campus resumes normal operations tomorrow. I will begrudgingly return to my office…to write. 🤦🏾‍♂️

NEW: My office is hearing that DOGE is now at the IRS. That means Musk's henchmen are in a position to dig through a trove of data about every taxpayer in America. And if your refund is delayed, they could very well be the reason.
