I hadn’t even thought about that. Incredible.

Janet Mills, the Democratic governor of Maine, challenged President Trump during a White House meeting on Friday. The fight has thrust Mills onto the national stage, making her a folk hero to her party and a political target. Here's what to know.

This is insanity (and by the way what if the employee is in the hospital or on vacation during this basically 3 day window?) www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...

Just a reminder that the neither the U.S. Digital Service (which has been converted into DOGE) nor OPM has any legal authority to direct every single federal government employee to give them a job summary. Literally no such authority at all.

Elon Musk is not the owner of the US Government and his email to all federal workers is bullshit

"The term DEI, frequently invoked by the Trump administration, functions as a smoke screen" read @adamserwer.bsky.social on the real goals of the 'anti-DEI' rhetoric www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Where are the Democrats but also Where are the churches Where are the celebrities Where are the NGOs Where are the Universities Where are professional groups like AMA Where are the athletes Where are the unions What people/groups do and don’t do for next month determines our collective future

The Musk emails asking federal employees to explain their tasks are have already been sent. One described it to me as "a trap." donmoynihan.substack.com/p/military-p...

What’s wasteful is ordering feds to explain their jobs instead of letting them DO their jobs.

New, from me @theatlantic.com: *No, the federal government is not too big *It has real human capital needs *Firings are indiscriminate, weakening state capacity *Creating a toxic and politicized workplace is driving away dedicated employees www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

NEW Here is the full email that Musk/OPM is sending to 2 million federal employees. Subject line: What did you do last week? Musk claimed on X that failure to reply would be considered a resignation, but that is not mentioned in the email.

Sending an email to employees asking them to list five things they did that week is a classic move from a manager who has no idea how to manage

The sadism alone is shameful. But he's talking about the folks who keep our drinking water clean, keep airline travel safe, staff our national parks, protect us against terrorists and spies, cut grandma's social security check, and so many other services. A despicable mindset

"Unfortunately, rather than be shocked by each time Trump or one of his closest allies utter something openly authoritarian, we need to take a step back and realize that the Republican Party has become an authoritarian political party."

I am inundated with messages from federal workers who are feeling frantic, furious and fed up after receiving Musk’s email and reading his threatening X post. The psychological warfare is the point.

In this week's comics, Tom Tomorrow follows the disassembly of American democracy, starring everyone's least favorite billionaire. Read all the funnies: austinchronicle.com/comics

Chris and I were speaking w/ friend in a fed/military position (spouse also fed employee). What they want ppl to know is that “probationary” doesn’t mean 1st year on the job…any job change = probationary. Thousands of fed/military workers w/ decades of knowledge are being fired.

But why? It’s a mystery!

This

What ?!?

Dan Caine, Trump’s new replacement for Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, reportedly told Trump, “I love you, sir. I think you’re great, sir. I’ll kill for you, sir.” He also put on a MAGA hat, despite it violating military protocol.

Didn't he and Trump tell us Musk isn't in charge of DOGE? So what authority does he have to require these reports or to threaten firing?

AZ AG Kris Mayes: This is a coup by Trump against our Constitution, because they are violating not only the separation of powers but also the court orders We have federal judges saying to Donald Trump and Elon Musk, “Stop this now,” and yet we believe they are violating those orders.

Trump’s lawsuit barred by the First Amendment, pollster’s team argues www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Congress ignores looming shutdown to focus on tax cuts, agency layoffs www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

Word salad, again

Looking like a dork aside, hurting grandma, the economy, and the military without much thought is definitely peak MAGA.

Her own frontline prosecutors defended their actions--and resigned after being asked to dismiss the Eric Adams case. But now the U.S. attorney general derides the merits of the Eric Adams case in New York. Trump sought loyality. He has it. At least at the top. nyti.ms/4b8McMZ

DOGE’s Only Public Ledger Is Riddled With Mistakes The figures from Elon Musk’s team of outsiders represent billions in government cuts. They are also full of accounting errors, outdated data and other miscalculations. nyti.ms/4i1ril4

Just like we shouldn’t be firing FAA employees when commercial airliners are flipping upside down.

"Only 34% approve of what Musk is doing Only 26% are OK with him shutting down govt programs And a whopping 63% don’t like Musk’s marauders gaining access to federal government databases containing Social Security, Medicare and tax information" www.azcentral.com/story/opinio...

Yes @adamserwer.bsky.social gets it right. But for all these reasons, it is necessarily an attack on the 14th Amendment. We have to start talking about it in constitutional terms. Because that is what they are resisting.

Even the @wsj agrees DOGE claimed savings are not true. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

Musk went straight to the slurs after being called out yet again for saying that astronauts have been stranded on the International Space Station by the Biden administration for “political reasons”—a lie that astronauts themselves have repeatedly debunked.

The Trump administration abruptly dismissed the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and other senior officers on Friday night, as the Pentagon moves to bring the military’s leadership in line with its “America First” agenda.

They will make sure there is a for-profit private school available in all areas when they pass vouchers. They will take every dollar possible, from every corner of Texas, as soon as the tax money is available. They will also make sure churches utilize the $ making opportunity.

Elon Musk is the Mike Lindell of Trump 2.0. He’s an upgrade in terms of star power and wealth, but just as conspiracy-addled, overly online, and completely ignorant about how government or society functions.

Interesting thing for the President to say about a person who, according the government’s lawyers, “has no actual or formal authority to make government decisions himself” and “only has the ability to advise the President, or communicate the President’s directives.”

Remarkable: Trump's own pollster just found that in swing House districts, Dems lead by 5 points and voters want tax policy to prioritize working people, per Politico. Yet GOP is about to brutally slash the safety net and give the rich huge tax cuts! New piece: newrepublic.com/article/1918...

Judge Trevor McFadden has called a 3pm hearing Monday on the AP’s motion for a restraining order against the Trump White House over its handling of the press.

On the one side, I do not love being a Jew in a country now ruled by explicit Nazis. On the other hand, this is all amazing ad footage for the Dems in 2026.

It looks like Trump’s border czar Tom Homan — who has asked the Justice Department to investigate @aoc.bsky.social for posting information on migrants’ rights — just ended his CPAC speech with a gesture that is, or is extremely similar to, a Nazi salute.

another Nazi salute at CPAC

Really interesting that this (more sparsely attended) event focused on Trump's sell-out to Russia. I expect fury abt the DOGE cuts. But this is a bit of a surprise.
