A thing I learned making bad student films: if there's something important that you don't want the audience/reader to notice, you have to draw attention to it so that they remember that they didn't notice it. Otherwise they actually don't notice it and the ending doesn't work. Writing is horrible.

Sometimes Unreal has the weirdest quirks... Like you can't add or remove a Sound Effect Processing chain while audio is running, but if you want to bypass the effect, you have to wait 0.5 seconds after the audio starts playing or the function does nothing... Weird stuff is afoot.

Anybody positing that the problem with the games industry is that devs are too expensive is gonna get an instant block. For the cost of one EA CEO you could afford 213 devs making $120k apiece. I did a talk about this, got entirely confused by it, and concluded that story is ultimately more repeatable than mechanics so long as there’s depth. Whatever that is. Then again, I suppose some mechanics have depth too. shrug
