As a young teen I adored the novels, & have such a clear memory of going to see this film at the cinema! Huge fan of Lynch from that moment on - loved the aesthetic so much. For all its flaws, this movie was a visionary work of art. And I still have such a soft spot for it.

Apparently when investors wanted Lynch’s surreal scenes cut from “The Elephant Man,” Brooks responded:
"We screened the film to bring you up to date as to the status of that venture. Do not misconstrue this as our soliciting the input of raging primitives."

Was lucky enough to experience (& it was an *experience*) the “Between Two Worlds” exhibition in 2015. Still have such clear memories of wandering through the halls, just being in the moment.
I loved his films, but had no idea what to expect from his visual art.
