What are the #Tiktokrefugees doing to replace the void this morning? I’m back to listening to my favorite science podcasts.

TikTok shutting down in the middle of my live stream really felt like we were Thanos-snapped into oblivion, one user at a time.

TikTok is really gone. My heart…

From article: "The new strategy “does not insist on making the perfect atom mirror,” Kovachy says. “Instead, it looks for a way to improve the collective net effort of many different atom mirrors, compensating for the imperfections of each individual atom mirror.”"

Third suicide associated with generative AI, and maybe first clear case of using generative AI to plan a crime.

What is or isn't a "BCI"? We argue in Nature BME today that if the tech stimulates or records brain activity AND does computation, it's a BCI. www.nature.com/articles/s41... But we still need a way to discuss different types of BCI separately... 🧵 #BCI #BrainComputerInterface

So far, the college football playoffs have been underwhelming #sportssky #sport

We now have a starter pack for ROBOTICS. This should be a fun group. Are you building robots or sharing thoughts/research on the state of robotics? 🤖🦿 Request to join if you would like to be added, before it fills up. go.bsky.app/61LAgEj

@markhisted.org lays down some knowledge. What are recurrent networks doing in the brain? www.thetransmitter.org/neural-netwo... #neuroscience

I'm super happy to have collaborated with so many strangers online this year on open-source projects. However, it's been nagging at me that they were all men. No exceptions. How do we fix this?

Has anyone else noticed Jameis Winston is never highlighted in the Heisman ceremonies or commercials ? #nolenation

This book explores the argument (through NDEs and OBEs) that the brain itself doesn’t produce consciousness. Instead, the brain acts as a reducing valve to shift our nonphysical consciousness into a limited capacity that is useful to help the material human body survive #MorningReads #BookSky

As of yet, there is no unified “theory of everything” that can combine the laws of quantum mechanics with those of relativity theory in a way that begins to incorporate consciousness. -E. Alexander, MD #NeuroSky #Neuroscience #Brains

“If you would be a real seeker after truth, it is necessary that at least once in your life you doubt, as far as possible, all things.” —Rene Descartes

Hackers are some of the most interesting people to have conversations with. You just have to catch them when they’re not glued to their computer.

IEEE Humanoids Study Group - HRI Survey The IEEE Humanoids Study Group (www.ieee-ras.org/industry-gov...) is in the process of putting together a report to help standards groups across the world determine which existing standards can and should be applied to humanoid robots

What’s your biggest grievance with OpenAI?

The Apple research paper that says AI (LLMs) can’t reason

I honestly believe all LLM results should come with a disclaimer reminding people that the thing doesn’t (and absolutely cannot) know any facts or do any reasoning; it is simply designed to *sound* like it knows facts and frequently sweeps some up accidentally in the process.

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪

OK If we are moving to Bluesky I am rescuing my favourite ever twitter thread (Jan 2019). The renamed: Bluesky-sized history of neuroscience (biased by my interests)
