@alfreds-mad-world.bsky.social would you spank me for posting some Mad Magazines on here?? they are digitized and in my collection as a digital library? yeah I'm askin before doin it and making a mess.
Isaac Asimov who was a PhD, creator of the three laws of robotics, & scifi-horror author had been warning people that AI would be used for evil since the 1940s.
That rag was my bible for years.
Don’t know if I can get behind it again, but that cover is a good start.
The usual gang of idiots and Monty Python are treasures.
Eh.. I’m not sure I’d agree that it maintained its soul over the years, or if it was ever even that radical, (liberal thought is still apart of the status quo at the end of the day), but I will agree this bit is pretty great.
So funny thing is this comic came out after I had that sticker made but if I got the story right their cover is referencing an old cover of theirs that had a single middle finger.
So it's one of those divergent creation things. (though would be awful if they did steal It from me)
Unfortunately there are many instances of genAI being used in Black Ops 6. Its not even cheeky with 6 fingers, they legit are using it all over the place.
Not a real Mad Magazine cover, but a hilarious Photoshop poking fun at AI's hand-drawing struggles. While AI keeps evolving, humor like this reminds us that human creativity - and satire - still reign supreme (for now).
Yes, hire the real deal. No way I listen to AI audiobooks. So many beautiful voices out there that are real. Real human, and my system responds to that.
AI is a new and powerful tech that we’ve seen its use excessively in scams cheap/shady businesses and Crypto This tech is supported by some really slimy people, and there are little to no protections for those affected by it. It needs to have regulations yesterday. That is where the aversion is.
Since the most recent full run of the magazine concluded, it currently spends most of the year putting out themed compilation issues collecting earlier material with one year-end issue containing new material. This is the 2024 release of that.
La IA no compite con el arte humano, sino que puede complementarlo. La creatividad auténtica sigue siendo el motor del arte, pero las herramientas tecnológicas pueden ser aliadas poderosas para potenciar ideas y procesos. #dialogo #ia
AI on Spotify didn't know the difference between Victorian and Elizabethan. Autocorrect doesn't accept the latter either. AI learns eventually but never gets it.
It’s actually a recent issue that arrived in the mail. They reuse old material and these issues are usually found only in comic shops or via subscription
It's a bit more complicated than that: they never 'stopped publishing' per se, but they renumbered it to #1 when they moved offices from New York to California. And then a little bit after, Time Warner came in and made a mess of things.
time warner has been making a mess of things for years! mad magazine officially denied it, but it was widely suspected at the time that the corporate directives were behind the introduction of advertisements and colored pages in the early 2000s, which alienated many long-term subscribers
The editors claimed to have been puzzled about the controversy... “We see this everywhere in NYC. We didn’t realise it was that bad.” Or something similar.
Me too! A few years ago, I was working at an alternative location, I wandered off to read my New Yorker magazine when a colleague I’d never met sat beside me and said “I’m impressed.” I said, don’t be. I also subscribe to Mad.
Mad did more to shape my view of the world than of recognised at the time. (Ironic, anti-hypocrisy, anti-corporate.) And for that I will always be grateful.
Many of my colleagues were snobs, which is why I walked away from their cred-measuring convo just to have a quiet moment. My colleague intended to compliment me as an intellect just because I was reading The New Yorker.
Regarding AI. it's not the AI's fault, but the fault of those who use it incorrectly. You don't punish a child if it does something that was forced on it by an adult or it just did a mistake or whatever the reason
I love this so much. I can remember when they did this cover (albeit with only one finger) and I had a subscription as a kid. It came in the mail and I thought for sure I'd be grounded for eternity. And wasn't!
Funny story, my college algebra teacher had 6 fingers pn both hands and both feet... It was a family thing... Also, not sure if this was relevant but his family was from the Appalachian mountains.
Funny enough most newer image models do get the hands right now, fortunately there are still pretty good tells that it's AI, but at first glance some of these images are getting really good.
That isn't the original cover for Issue 166. People didn't know AI would have so much trouble counting fingers in '74. I assume this altered version of the cover appeared inside a recent issue.
The original of that issue was the only one my mom wouldn't let me buy with my allowance when I was a kid. I had every other issue from 1973 through 1981.
It was rare I could talk my parents into buying me a copy (I still have the Star Wars issue), but as a nerdy kid interested in computers and technology, the giant barcode really stuck with me!

Only it wasn't Buddy Holly singing.
Artie Intellegencia imitates life.
I, for one, welcome our 6-fingered AI overlords!

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Get it right smh
Haven't seen one in 40 years or so. Loved MAD when I grew up
They mostly do reprints of old stuff now, but they put a bit of new material in there sometimes.
Were they being honest?
They must have known what they were doing.
A rare cover without AE Newman dominating

WE are the A.I. this whole time!
But this is hilarious!
I'm just stunned at how a 50 year cover is so relevant today.
I got some catching up to do.
The original cover is shown in this post:
