Game: Outer Wilds (Steam) For all the hype, it really was a 9.5/10 for me. Exploration, investigation, existential questions, and all while watching yourself slowly get better at the controls/3D movement. And you’re a genderless alien! -.5 for some artificial difficulty. ~20 hrs to beat. Play it!!

TV: Conclave (Paid on Prime) As an ex-Catholic, this movie hit right in terms of nerdy Catholic lore and a main character who is genuinely moral despite costs. As a lover of narrative, it was engrossing for one watch but not a second. The awards it was given were earned. Very good.

TV: Ranma 1/2 (Netflix) This show is so funny and silly and I got a whole lot more jokes watching as an adult. And it’s kind of wild looking back on my childhood and realizing this manga helped me question ideas about gender/sex! The remake holds up as a fun romcom :) 🐼🫖🥋

Frog Detective 1 made me smile a lot 😃

TV: The Menu (Netflix) New Top 10 horror movie. And maybe the only horror/comedy on my list of personal faves? I laughed bitterly and joyfully, gasped, cringed, and felt intellectually engrossed. Went in blind and enjoyed it.

TV: Still Alice (Netflix) Just talked to my psych 101 class about memory and Alzheimer’s, thinking I might assign this for extra credit because it does such a good job of showing how our memories shape us, and what it means to lose them. Sad, accurate, and again, very sad.

TV: The Witcher Sirens of the Deep (Netflix) Some cool animation sequences and world building make it a solid watch and a good companion to other Witcher shows. Still, I’m looking forward more to the new game when we see Ciri’s perspective highlighted. Geralt doesn’t change, he just… is.

TV: Erin Brockovich (Netflix) For an investigative film from the 2000s, it holds up well. Pro-environment/anti-capitalist messages still hit their mark. I enjoyed it. And had to smile for a Wichita shoutout :)

TV: Moana 2 (Theaters) Cute, catchy, and great overlap of modern fiction and myth. Maybe too many characters? But overall a fun watch. The little friends/side creatures all made me smile.

TV: May December (Netflix) Definitely would not have watched if I’d realized the content. TW: statutory rape. An upsetting, well-acted exploration of awful people. My heart went out to Joe, and watching him slowly realize and act on his suppressed feelings was the best part of the movie.

Game: Fields of Mistria (Steam) A new Top 5 of farming games… once it’s done. The gameplay loop is engrossing, dialogue/characters fantastic. Starting a new file was like playing Harvest Moon DS or Stardew for the first time. The early access version out now has about 40 hours of gameplay. 10/10

TV: Squid Game (Season 2; Netflix) I liked the main character’s evolution. Didn’t really want to watch more death games, but some narrative decisions made the season psychologically interesting. I will def watch Season 3 & I hope desperately that it answers bigger philosophical questions abt class

TV: Queer Eye (Season 9; Netflix) So many colorful people, good stories, and cool house makeovers in this season. Has been good for the last few weeks when I needed a bit of heartwarming ❤️‍🩹

TV: The Six Triple Eight (Netflix) Admittedly some of the acting was mid 😩 but otherwise this was a cool story of a unique historical moment and I learned a lot watching it

TV: She-Ra & the Princesses of Power (Netflix) Finally finished this and wow. The queer rep and general diversity is fantastic, characters are complex and well-motivated, it’s the kind of cartoon I wish I had as a kid. Felt like the right length too for both plot & fluff. Fun!

TV: Atlas (Netflix) Although I think they could’ve pushed a lot of sci-fi aspects harder, overall I liked how it illustrated themes of AI mistrust and human relationships. And I’m a sucker for movies featuring smart and badass Latinas

TV: The Law According to Lidia Pöet S2 (Netflix) Historical investigation/drama and S2 is as good as the first. Enjoyed the discussions on women’s rights and the costumes were beautiful. More gory than I’d like. Will watch the upcoming S3

TV: A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (Netflix) A well-paced teen murder mystery with good twists. Accurate small town secrets and relationships. And a nerdy, future-focused, good girl main character. Themes of good/evil, some discussion of racial tensions in the UK. Good to watch once.
