It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Deep, dark secret time: If my hands are dirty, and I don't have something to wipe them on, I sometimes wipe my hands on the upper portion of my socks. 😂

Never understood why ANY place would push so hard to keep teachers from retiring. Do you really want ppl who learned the profession 25/30/40 yrs ago teaching your kids? Personally, I'd prefer folks who learned to navigate the same kind of world my kid was coming up in. 1/

WA State families: Please email or call your local reps & ask them to save #NBCT teacher stipends. Once we hit 25 yrs of service there are no salary increases. I started teaching right out of college. I must teach 42 years b4 I can retire. That's 17 more yrs #TLsky secure.ngpvan.com/OP85qBkL-0qv...

Do I know any public or school librarians in Hawaii? Do I know someone who might know someone who is? I'd love to be in touch *VIA EMAIL* with them. [email protected]. It's for a story, there's no need to be on record, and it's about positive things, not negative.

My cartoon for today’s @guardian books.

Love these @aaslala.bsky.social tips. Is it weird I want one in my inbox every day? #KyLChat #TLsky

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

Democratic governors should have all walked out together midway through that meeting but especially after Trump's attack on Gov. Janet Mills. I don't know why they didn't. Makes no sense.

Nearly one-third of Haskell Indian Nations University staff laid off www.kake.com/home/nearly-...

Hearing rumors that fed cuts to media subscriptions includes OCLC Connexion in some federal libraries. That would be a gutting of the infrastructure that rings my alarms. Anybody know more?

New from me in @newrepublic.com: “Primary Every Democrat.” If the current crop cannot demonstrate they care more about democracy than enjoying three-day weekends, we should flood the zone and challenge them all.

Couple months back, did an interview, about 45 mins long, discussing the importance of information and news literacy for students - what it is, why it matters, how we can address it. Notified by author it was finally complete & posted. 1/

Are we REALLY asking the country who initiated a war on Ukraine whether the Ukrainian president who has been successfully leading his country's resistance and defense is popular enough to get re-elected? That seems like the most ridiculous both-sides-ing I've ever heard.

"Government by organized money is just as dangerous as Government by organized mob."  —FDR, 1936

Also, for 50 dollars a year you can get a digital card from New Orleans Public Library and Queens Public Library

I walk the rescue dogs at the pet shop on our corner in Philly. This is Teeter. I’ve been walking her for about four weeks, and nobody has applied to adopt her yet! (prob bc everything is on 🔥!) She’s abt 1.5yrs old, ~30 pounds — sufficiently compact for city living — and incredibly sweet.

anyway y'all, i'm gonna log off for a while. stay chill, do some homework, read a book, plant some flowers, take care of your loved ones this weekend. 🫶📚☕🌷🧘‍♀️🤗

Who wants spies who look like they could fit into other societies? What's the point of that?

Your regular reminder that the more often you own your mistakes, the easier it gets. It is like any muscle-- work it more and it gets stronger. All people mess up, and sometimes we do so publicly. It's not the end of the world to acknowledge that we missed the mark; it's how we clean up.

The Poverty and Philanthropy class earned the school a Sara Jaffarian Award, an annual $5,000 award from ALA and @aaslala.bsky.social that recognizes excellence in humanities programming in libraries serving grades K-12. Applications for this year's award close May 1! www.ala.org/tools/progra...

The classic question of how many toddlers one could take on in battle takes into account size and intelligence, but not tenacity or energy. If one actually spends time with a mass of activated toddlers, as I did this morning, the answer is always 0. The toddlers will win.

Did you know ... that we'll be featuring #FunFactFriday leading up to the 2025 AASL National Conference? This week's fun fact ... the very first AASL National Conference was held in Louisville, Kentucky in 1980! #AASL25

It seems it's culturally okay for something to go from masculine to feminine, e.g. names like Leslie changing to a girl name, but never the other way around. Or, if it does go the other way, it has to be changed, e.g. "dude wipes" instead of towelettes. Are there exceptions in the last 100 years?

At the entrance to Nordstroms in ATX. Thank you.

SHELVE YOUR GLAIVE, TODAY YOU WILL BATTLE ENNUI. AND YOU WILL WIN.

Threatening public servants like this is a MAGA hallmark. It's unAmerican. It's got to stop.

As I'm playing with more and more features in my cataloging software, I have been uncovering bugs - good for the developers to know, pain in the butt to wait for the fixes on! 😂 #TLSky #SchoolLibrary 📚

Anyone else ever come across sticky notes that seem to be made with Superglue? Took me almost 10 mins with a sticker scraper to get this stupid thing out of this book. #TLSky #SchoolLibrary 📚 #EduSky

One of the many things that worries me about the current crop of students is how they say things that aren't true, like, ALL the time. Can't tell if they're just THAT used to lying, or if they're dissociating from reality. 1/

I'm starting to wonder if ppl don't realize that their actions directly create their reality, and/or that we have a choice to make things better or worse all the time. Students don't seem to understand it, and seems like more and more adults don't get it, either.

A little music to start the day: “My Stupid Heart” - Walk off the Earth (Ft. Luminati Suns) Official Video youtu.be/1UJpFahphko

Wake up. Resist. 📚 🙌

As much as it makes me nuts when students don't listen, I get it - they're still brain-damaged little mutants who aren't done growing their brains in. When it's EDUCATORS who don't listen... 🤬

#SchoolLibrarians have been sounding the alarm about book banning. Now our government is the enemy, censoring books, criminalizing librarians, & closing libraries. There is more than one way to ban a book. @ctulibrarians.bsky.social& @ctulocal1.bsky.social will fight for the freedom to read.

Got angry at The Media on the way home from work today so it's time for a bit of a rant. It made the local news how one of the candidates for PC leader said there's pornography in school libraries and "there are books describing bestiality and incest in school libraries" www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Sometimes I write a text or social media post in anger or annoyance then add a laughing emoji, and it frequently turns my internal annoyance into a chuckle at the silliness of it (whatever "it" is). If you don't laugh, you'll cry! 😂
