Learned to ride a different kind of bike over the weekend.

Ahh, long-press, the most undiscoverable UI in existence...

there's just an incredible amount of density in this neighborhood... with perimeter blocks of 2 to 5 stories tall... also intermingled are rowhouses, attached single family homes, social housing... even a high school. and loads of trees.

This is good.

I kinda want to talk about this sign, Kirkland.

Dow deserves a lot of credit for the West Seattle Link ROD delay

I know I'm guilty of this.

Man this measles exposure map is so depressing to me as a mom--it's not just a map, it's a timeline of two parents panicking as they realize just how sick their baby is. This is a solid hour and a half of frantic driving. All bc some irresponsible person infected an infant too young to be vaccinated

After Metrolink launched Metrolink Reimagined, which shifted to all day service with timed transfers, ridership recovery exceeded expectations, now up to 62%. Keep up the good work! Imagine what ridership Metrolink could get wtih 15 minute frequencies and electrification!

Trump posted a video in which Gaza is entirely ethnically cleansed & replaced by a luxury resort devoted to Trump. I know there's a lot going on, but everyone should really take a moment to reflect on this.

The whole thing is a bunch of bullshit, much like the promise to "audit the budget" in Seattle. Sure the Seattle version didn't come with MAGA levels of hate and shamelessness, but it was still a ruse so that the richest of the rich could pickpocket everyone else.

"The apocalypse may be nigh" isn't what I wanted to hear today from the out-of-control drug addict overtly trying to destroy the American government.

If you see a Cybertruck, this is the assignment.

Awful. But it’s not just Republicans in DC disrespecting mothers. The car advocates prevented my staff member who was out on maternity leave from voting remotely on recommends of Lake Washington Boulevard. Some of those votes were also one vote short.

This is a full purge of every single LGBTQ employee at the NSA. Rufo is falsely mischaracterizing a LGBTQ employee resource group as a "sex chat" to create pretext to fire every single member in it. This is a playbook they will run to purge the entire federal government.

This could have been Seattle’s Spanish Steps, you know? But it was more important to make sure that people who don’t live here could leave the city at warp speed than it was to make special places people living in the city could love for generations.

If renters had shown up en masse to council to say “we didn’t know about this” or “we weren’t engaged enough”, would Seattle Council and OPCD be going out of their way to re-do the community engagement they already spent years doing? I think probably not

Guys, set aside an hour to watch this. It's more than what you think... and it needs to be heard and shared. Thank you, @mattbaume.bsky.social. You are truly appreciated. 💜

Have you seen the new edition of my book Human Transit? Now, the ebook is on-sale for $4.99 only through March 2. It's been called the most useful introduction to public transportation issues for the curious general reader. 🧵1/

if it sounds both classist and racist it's because it is.

BREAKING 🚨 🚨 🚨 The woman dragged out of a Kootenai County Republican Central Committee town hall won't face charges, and the security team that removed her from the event lost its license to operate in the city. www.khq.com/news/prosecu...

It's actually kind of jarring watching Shoreline council meetings these days. Commenters speaking in favor of eliminating parking minimums and thanking councilmembers for promoting policies geared at welcoming new residents.

If I were a Democrat, and I saw Trump do a purge of high-level generals who were women and people of color and wouldn't be "yes men," I wouldn't vote to advance JD Vance's college friend for Secretary of the Army. And yet....16 Democrats just did so

If you're curious how a Capitol Hill Superblock might work, here's one example that maintains access to all existing driveways while increasing pedestrian space by 50%.

Finally, some real government efficiency!

It's been very useful that the bf and I can share chargers.

The dynamic between Sara Nelson and Dan Strauss on the Seattle City Council is perhaps the most uncomfortable I've ever seen, and that includes years when Kshama Sawant was calling her colleagues corporate stooges

If you live in a Blue State, the most important thing you can do individually for America is get on your city council and focus entirely on building more housing. Many people in Red States will find their lives untenable very soon and need somewhere to flee to.

Over on X, Chris Rufo is out with a series of leaked internal chats between trans intelligence analysts at NSA, where they talked about things like coming out, bottom surgery, and their sex lives. So yeah, employees should be afraid of things like that even if they’re not fired.

"The mayor’s office told KOMO News they don’t have a timeline right now but that SDOT is working closely with the PDA." So it's still just election year bluster then

The obvious best move here, then, is to lie. Write an email claiming to have saved America one trillion dollars, unified China during the Warring States period (475-200 BC), and successfully protected Florida from Poseidon, god of the sea. Become irreplaceable. It's an AI, it'll believe you!

Even accepting LLMs are capable of this task (lol, no), this is set up to fail, to create excuses for arbitrarily firing people. Nobody was told that was the query; you can't tell "mission-critical" from five bullet points; a snapshot of one week won't tell you that either; the list goes on and on.

North Americans don’t have to go all the way to Europe to be inspired by smart investments in bike infrastructure and multi-modal city-making. They can go to Montreal, to Vancouver, to Victoria… But by all means, go to Europe too if you can.

Seattle Police Investigating Anti-Gay Hate Crime in Capitol Hill Witnesses Say “Frat Bros” Shouted Slurs and Shot Them With Gel Pellets Outside Pony

Seattle, this is the way! My neighborhood, Mid-Beacon Hill, has a stunning lack of tree canopy. This could all happen on publicly-owned land…cheap, simple, a no-brainer. In addition to the environmental benefits, just try and imagine what the city would look like in 20 years!

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office. Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc. Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.

Bruce Harrell was on council for a decade and has been Mayor for 3 years. He has fought for changes that have added years of delay, billions in cost, and will make the regional rail network less effective. Performative BS and too little too late. www.theurbanist.org/2023/07/21/h...

This is such a Bad Idea.

The Office of the Waterfront needs to be disbanded as soon as the Waterfront Project is complete. Its files need to be confiscated and archived by the SPL, personnel debriefed, and badges deactivated.

Why isn't Seattle on this list? These research cuts could destroy our local economy...and harm people. Mayor Harrell must be too busy wondering why his poll numbers are down to do his job. Seattle deserves leaders who will fight for us!

This is how it’s done.
