chopping up a lot of bits for some fancy custom weapons
comment in response to post
Definitely, I've still got some bits from the last time I used the kits years ago (and I'm eager to do better this time to compare)

It's nice seeing(and also trying to make) bio-inspired two part mechanical fore-arms, but the whole twisting over each-other does seem weirdly complicated, can't blame those designs that just rotate completely at the wrist

last few pictures for details and clean-up

a few more highlights

edge highlighted the armour with some grey, never feels like a lot of work, and it's satisfying to do, but I sometimes have trouble finding the balance of too much/too bright vs not enough to be that noticeable

There should be more focus on lesser known events involving small/no-name factions It should be a setting that covers a whole galaxy over many millennia, but the more it comes back to the same few characters and events(I'm looking at you primarchs and the horus heresy), the smaller it seems

ready for the last steps of highlighting and any cleanup

yeah ghost in the shell was the inspiration behind this dunecrawler conversion
comment in response to post
Yeah, the conversion was initially inspired by the ghost in the shell spider-tanks

Admech are old lore-wise, but newer model wise, so it's always interesting reading what their forces look like in pre-2015 books as they're varied and more open to interpretation without definite visuals, makes for great conversion ideas, but it seems I already did this one

Yeah I definitely wish there were more types of space knight models, I'm always hoping for more like secutarii, imperial knight troops and updated inquisition crusaders, and also kitbashing my own. I do think space marines get way too much attention, but I'll still occasionally pick up ones I like

they're simple, versatile and easy to convert since there's an abundance of parts. I don't like all of them, but I'm a sucker for a good old sci-fi space knight, which they sometimes lean into, especially black templars, they're not my favourite, but I like going back and making a few occassionally

and the rest of the basing, just drybrushing orange to highlight and shading with strong/flesh wash, which was also done to the bottom of the legs to help the model fit the base
comment in response to post
started the basing, going with martian ironcrust because I like the red-orange part it brings to the mostly black models, helps that is also kinda matches the blanche art too
comment in response to post
shaded, I normally just use black and brown washes, but for black templars I like to mix in a flesh wash since it has a similar warm tone to the classic Blanche art

decals for chapter logo, crusade shields and squad markings. I even did the proper full method this time of gloss coat prep, then decal, then matt coat on on top, still need to paint over edges to blend in then shade it all

looking more complete with a few more colours now
comment in response to post
added a few more colours

The red light is actually from a PHOTOOLEX TOFU Camera Light, I don't know much photography wise but I've found it really handy for mini pictures, pretty cheap, small and easy to move/position, very adjustable and can do a lot of colours(even if I just use red)

I feel the same, I've only made one zone mortalis tile but I've had a lot of fun taking pictures in it, I wanna make more terrain just so I've got more photo backgrounds
comment in response to post
primed black(except for any non-moulded on shoulder pads) and drybrushed a lighter black and greys for some shading/highlighting
comment in response to post
added another few small detail, and glued some chains on the arms that were missing them, should be ready to paint now
