For me, the worrying bit isn’t that the standards are different between UK and EU (thanks for confirming that) - but that the stuff for UK (ie ‘not for the EU’ ) doesn’t get checked for compliance with those standards.

I think that's right. It's complicated isn't it?! So altho Liz might be fear mongering, at same time I have little faith UK is actually checking imports from RoW properly, like does UK really have infrastructure for that?

Isn't this really an issue with pesticides on vegetables from Mexico while the UK are not doing inward checks?
How else can we prevent buying vegetables with pesticides apart from buying organic now that this government don't like the single market and do not do inward checks?

The real tragedy is that PEOPLE are writing these life-destroying letters. Then going home and sleeping at night.
Which means there's a whole segment of the population that delights in the misery of others.
And they've somehow aggregated at the Home Office like iron filings drawn to a magnet.

Of course, what will happen in this specific case is that the Home Office will have a magical change of heart. They always do when their intolerably stupid zero common sense rulings get into the media.
