Played another round of Craters tonight. One of the best sessions the past 6 months! I think I'm getting closer to a quite good game!

🛠️✨ I want to talk about game design 🎲✂️—specifically, a shift in how I approach iterations as I design. As a new designer, I would take feedback and gradually adjust my game, letting it drift in the direction of that feedback. But now, my approach is very different… 🧵 (1/)

My latest project is a deck builder civilization game. Yes, there might be a few already... question is if I can make it different and interesting enough?

I've submitted several game designs to publishers in the past weeks. I have been told that they will get back to me in about 10 days from today. But I'm so curious about their thoughts. I would love to listen to their discussions. I suck at waiting! Oh, the waiting.

@eanderssonsunden.bsky.social played whirling witchcraft today FINALLY its such a good little game!!

The publisher that is looking at Craters will play it more extensively the coming two weeks. Hopefully it will lead to a contract. Wish me luck!

After some tweaking, I submitted this to a publisher frost I adore. Wish me luck!

Introducing the FINALISTS FOR THE 2025 CARDBOARD EDISON AWARD!!! cardboardedison.com/award

You think you have designed a simple game, and then you sit down to write the rules ... 🎲✂️

Played half a game of solo-Craters. I have succeeded in increasing the player agency and also tweaked most things so the game feels stable. I would love it if a publisher picked it up now and made it into the game they want it to be. I will discuss the game with a publisher tomorrow!

Hey, artists, in case you were wondering if your work matters: I'm a scientist working on climate change and biodiversity, and I would not be who I am today without The Lorax, The Secret of NIMH, Watership Down, The Last Unicorn, and The X-Files. I know I'm not alone. Thank you for all you do.

There are soooo many board games now. And I can't find time to play even close to half of the games I'm interested in. I truly appreciate Terrible Monster! It's a game that has replaced MtG for me - using 16 cards! What games would you recommend me checking out? boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/17...

If you entered the @cardboardedison.com contest and I was one of your judges - I hope my feedback was helpful! If not, or if anything was confusing, or you have new ideas you want to bounce off of me, please reach out. I'd love to get a critique on my critique. Good luck with the designs! 🎲✂️

So you like puzzle games, you say? Let me present Einstein's Garden! Let me know if you would like to try it! 🎲✂️

Craters has been updated to increase player agency. A few more tests to try to discern if this is the right amount. #tweaking #craters #gamedesign

Ideally, game components should "telegraph" game mechanics: A player who doesn't know the rules should be able make a good educated guess about how to play by looking at a game's setup. Tips for ensuring this happens, and also my current favorite example: 🎲✂️🧵(1/8)

As far as I know, this is the first mention of "Die glorreichen Gilden von Buttonville", designed by Christian Kudahl and me and to be published by Ravensburger later this year. youtu.be/Ozt_SNaFPQ0?...

Three tables (only one pictured) of game design students took their own Dominion cards for a spin this morning. Lots of good game design learning, especially around the need to clearly and succinctly communicate design intent. Shoutout to Rio Grande for supporting our program with copies of games!

One of the tougher things for me as a game creator: When we've been working on a game for a long time and a playtest makes us think we're not as close to done as we thought. Just had one of those. Part of being a designer is not letting tough emotions derail or slow you. 🎲✂️

Preparing for tomorrows play test. The next iteration of my cardbased civ game and @eanderssonsunden.bsky.social next version of Craters is on the menu.

As I continue to push through my list of games to judge for the @cardboardedison.com award, I can’t help but be in awe by the sheer amount of creativity on display from this community of makers!! 🎲✂️ This year is gonna be a tough one to win!

Whirling Witchcraft will be a part of an upcoming crowdfunding campaign from AEG!

Had a great play test evening with @eanderssonsunden.bsky.social Tested my latest iteration of "World in Flux" a Civ deckbuilder with some twists. Then we tried Eriks Craters, both games kept its pace, although there are some tweaking to make them shine.

BOARD GAME DESIGNERS! Let’s do an indie game share. With more board gamers joining BlueSky, let’s take a moment to connect and let others know what games you've made. 🧵 Introduce yourself and share your games 💙 Spread the post to reach more gamers! #boardgamesky #boardgames #boardgamedesign

Cover for the game 'The Lost Expedition' (Peer Sylvester/Osprey Games)- roughs to finished box art. Saw someone refer to this as an 'old game' the other day - but it feels quite recent to me. Yeah - it was 2016 so that's only ... wait, what!? Eight years ago! That's a whole small child.
