A far too regular & relevant reminder that there's nothing we can do about the US - but there's a lot we can do to make sure it doesn't happen to us There are 35 community independent candidates running in electorates Aust-wide who need your support šŸ™Œ šŸ™Œ Look #auspol >>> linktr.ee/CommunityInd...

Good site this. šŸ‘‡ Iā€™d make the case that itā€™s bigger than this! Indiā€™s are helping restore trust and integrity in our institutions. We NEED this now more than ever! Further, they are an inspiration to aspiring leaders and communities across šŸ‡¦šŸ‡ŗ. Politics done better! šŸ™Œ www.indiewins.com.au

Anyway. Congratulations to Russia on winning the Cold War. The long game worked.

I remember Albo saying that our relationship with China has ā€œchangedā€, & thatā€™s why we need AUKUS. I would argue our relationship with the US has also changed which is why we should dump AUKUS. TBH, in 40 years time, surviving climate is going to the main issue. What do you think?

A lovely few hours wandering around #Enlighten #Canberra.

Claiming youā€™ll save money by cutting the public service is like me saying Iā€™ll save money by cutting my grocery spend by dining out every night

A pile on between the colluded forces of LNP & NewsCorp should not influence the actions of the Labor Govt - but we see them bow down to the pile on (or even an expected pile on) every single time. In recent days we've seen the Nauru decision & the Biennale decision. Why do this Labor? #auspol

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicineā€”generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefitsā€”is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.

ā€˜In the end thatā€™s what the communications revolution brought us, the undercutting of democracyā€™s capacity to enact any broad social good.ā€™

Thank you @britannica.com! šŸ‘šŸ¾

Ah yes, "the daily lives of Jewish people," visiting Muslim-owned venues wearing a blue-and-white Star of David cap + demanding to know if servers have a problem w you after you are politely served. "Never intended to provoke-" oh, what were you trying to report on here, Ben? How good the tea was?

This article just shows what a piece of work Ita Buttrose is. She didn't like getting the emails so she harassed Anderson to sack #Lattouf, when he didn't acquiesce she moved on to Oliver-Taylor with more success. It was all about keeping Ita happy. www.smh.com.au/national/nsw...

News Corp in Australia are running campaigns to try and incite violence towards Jewish people, and film / report on the incidents - this attempt was botched and now the internal documents planning the provocation in News Corp's system are leaked @crikey.com.au www.crikey.com.au/2025/02/14/n...

David Pope on #TrumpLite Dutton. šŸŽÆ #auspol

@cnn.com :ā€The masked man went into the bank, pointed a gun at people and took all the money, raising questions about whether masked men can wield this kind of authority.ā€

Peter Dutton: "For months on campuses people have been protesting against Jewish students.... waving flags of terrorist organisations... there should be mandatory sentencing". He's talking about people protesting against fucking genocide, and there is ZERO pushback from David Spears. Fuck all this.

Asian bread-lovers of Canberra: Owen at Dream Cuisine has made perfect #shokupan! (I think so anyway).

Contemporary politics is dominated by bitterness and resentment not because of diversity and inclusion, but because free market economics has made life less privileged for white men -- and they hate it www.crikey.com.au/2025/01/31/w...

Many people don't realise that Hitler was a lazy willybrain who would get up at midday and sit and read all the day's press clippings about him that staff had to find each morning. He always listened to the last person he spoke to. He was a pampered private schoolboy who wanted to impress his dad.

Current news corp cycle is going to Australian politicians and asking "do you agree with this thing Trump did?" And then writing "diplomacy outrage" when they don't immediately agree to adopt the same policy.

Hey, friendsā€” Things are REALLY rough for political cartoonists right now. Their traditional clients are refusing to run their work. New clients canā€™t afford to pay them. A lot of political cartoonists are subsisting off patreons. If you share a political cartoon, please credit the cartoonist.

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

Hotel room view, #Hobart. I kinda like it. #accidentalart

Were such things here as we do speak about? Or have we eaten on the insane root That takes the reason prisoner?

Meta CEO and dog fucker Mark Zuckerberg has said that his platforms donā€™t need fact-checkers. So to celebrate this win for free speech, here are some of his best quotes: chaser.com.au/general-news...

Cory Doctorow on US 'conservatism', a warning for Australia under Dutton. ā€œProject 2025 isn't just a collection of terrifying ideas for running (and ruining) America - it's a collection of *mutually exclusive* terrifying ideas for running and ruining Americaā€ pluralistic.net/2025/01/06/h...

Negative gearing and capital gains tax concessions together make investing in residential property attractive, adding to demand and prices, the Howard Australian government was warned in 2004. They did nothing. Non-homeowners are paying the price. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-01...

Fun to see the people who say ā€œAmerica Firstā€ and mean ā€œwhites firstā€ fight with the people who say ā€œAmerica Firstā€ and mean ā€œmoney firstā€

1) It's fine to say Merry Christmas to someone you know celebrates it. 2) It's inconsiderate to say Merry Christmas to someone you know doesn't celebrate it. 3) It's polite to hedge if you're not sure. This isn't "woke", it's just the basic consideration your mother should have taught you.

We end the year with one major party celebrating that it has approved no new coal mines on the same day it approved 3 coal mine extension (one to 2088!), and the other madly touting its batshit nuclear fantasy as a cover for more coal. But yeah, the Greens and teals are the anarchists.

Dear World, Long term, what are you going to do to stop the richest man in the world from buying up all your governments one by one? Seems like kind of a big problem?

Cory Doctorow on app-first worker abuse. ā€œThe point of the "gig economy" is to use the "did it with an app" trick to avoid labor laws, so that bosses can shift risks onto workersā€¦ā€ pluralistic.net/2024/12/18/l...

Superb commentary on Dutton's nuclear 'plan' from cartoonist Matt Golding. #auspol #energy #nuclear #renewables

This is shocking.

Regular reminder to keep these three statements in your head at the same time: The world is awful. The world is much better. The world can be much better.

Tingle is half right here. Spud doesn't need to play the voters for mugs; that's not who these 'costings' are for. They're aimed squarely at our political media who are hungry for a fig-leaf to allow them to deploy their trademark 'both-sides' journalism. Will they fall for it? Of course.

Intelligence agencies claim to be all about counter-espionage and counter-terrorism. But the thing that gets them most animated is being embarrassed. We saw it with the persecution of Witness K and Bernard Collaery and we're seeing it again. www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...
