This is the media dunk to end all media dunks. www.wired.com/story/angeli...

Game Informer has officially returned

TFW you realize it’s been TWENTY YEARS since you were a student journalist in this program, absolutely in awe of the fact that you got to spend a week training under the journalists whose work you voraciously consumed day in and day out.

Tell the high schoolers in your life: Applications are now open for the week-long High School Journalism Institute. Students will work with Oregon journalists, stay on campus at OSU, report a story, and it's all free!

One of the best journalism jobs in the world is now open: NYT is looking for a new bureau chief to replace me in the Pacific Northwest.

"People who don't feel seen do not support a news outlet." Illuminating read from @donnerkay.bsky.social -- and especially important for anyone grappling with what it looks like to run a truly statewide news operation!

My name is Corey G. Johnson and the G stands for “Go and add me to chat where you’re talking about the company/agency secrets and attaching documents”

Khaled Hosseini, author of ‘The Kite Runner’ speaks out against controversial book ban policy in St. Francis schools “We’re supposed to be expanding their world and not shrinking it, and that’s what these policies do,” Hosseini said. www.startribune.com/author-of-th...

For what does it profit a man if he gain the whole world but loseth his snow? The quiet sense of loss as Duluth wraps up another pleasant-yet-existentially-horrifying winter. Featuring @jaustinumd.bsky.social, Mike Creger, and a new vocabulary word. www.startribune.com/even-in-dulu...

Wild to think it's been five whole-ass years since my bosses told me to work from home for the week "just to be safe" and that they'd see me again on Monday.

Leaving my phone in the living room while I’m in bed was one of the best decisions I ever made for my mental health. No screens in bed, ever!

Interesting. Here's my alternative take: Kill it with fire.

Late last year, Elliot and I stumbled upon a registry of every major film produced in Minnesota. We noticed several iconic flicks were made here in the ‘90s! Why? We set out to find out. Then, we watched every movie that grossed more than $1 million and ranked them. Enjoy the fruits of our labor!

‘Twas the dog that got me on board

What a dumb policy. Bylines are for transparency so readers can understand who is responsible for info. Arbitrarily limiting them and removing contributing reporting lines altogether is backwards in a time when we should be more open about our work. talkingbiznews.com/media-news/w...

Surprise surprise!

It’s going to be too cold for fire this weekend.

looking back, AOL had it right. 30 hours of internet per month was the right amount.

The perfect headline does not exis—ope, @deenawinter.bsky.social found it for @startribune.com 🎁 🔗

I really hope that no one hates me so much that they write a song about it and perform it at the SuperBowl

I linked DOGE staffer Marko Elez to a deleted X account that advocated repealing the Civil Rights Act, backed a “eugenic immigration policy,” and wrote, “You could not pay me to marry outside of my ethnicity." He just resigned. www.wsj.com/tech/doge-st...

Please please please do not start using FOIA systems as a form of protest. No one outside of a handful of FOIA officers at most will ever see it, and it'll just clog things up for anyone actually trying squeeze valuable information out of the government.

We just published a 3,000 word feature on Elon Musk's incursion into the federal government. Gift link here: www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/u...

An amazing last story from Strib reporter Randy Furst, as he wraps up a 52-year career. www.startribune.com/curious-minn...

Every woman I’ve ever dated thought I was funny until she’d inevitably watch Arrested Development, The Simpsons and Friends with me. Turns out I’m just a jumbled mess of TV quips and references come to life.

dear friends: gentle reminder that things are moving quickly and just because you haven’t seen something reported on yet doesn’t mean it’s the result of suppression or that an outlet “doesn’t care” about the issues. reporting — especially good, thorough reporting — takes time.

Sucks when people take your stuff and use it to make their stuff and don’t pay for it, eh?

In today's #EssentialMinnesota newsletter from @startribune.com: 📰 Our politics team makes sense of the mess at the Minnesota House of Representatives 🧊 We drove a Zamboni! 🌲 A note from yours truly And more! On to the news 🗞️

This was reported. A lot. Not just by @motherjones.com etc, but by the biggest outlets. The bigger question is: why didn’t people see/believe/care about that reporting. Stop blaming reporting entities for information ecosystem issues outside of their control. Also…subscribe to some stuff ffs.

I've seen now 3 separate "ICE is operating in St Paul/Minneapolis" posts, not a single one pointing to a 1st person account or source and sharing that shit around means you're doing the facists' work for them.

Anyone who’s surprised by the quality of Teen Vogue’s political coverage is either an idiot, hasn’t been paying attention, or is a big-time idiot.

Question for the Minnesotans on here. Is it: • Oof da • Uff da Please advise.

In other news, yesterday I called on the four biggest streaming providers to carry C-SPAN. It's increasingly hard to find non-partisan, independent coverage about what's going on in government, and making C-SPAN easier to access for everyone is a good place to start.
