If there was a very foreseeable vote coming, and I felt I had no choice but to vote on it in a way that would enrage people, I would’ve planned some other counteracting move for immediately thereafter. Calling for impeachment, maybe. But I guess in order to do that I would have to give a shit.

Why wouldn’t DC try to take as much of that $1 billion as possible out of services to non-residents and the federal government? Why should a single DC cop be part of a motorcade?

Just so you know Democrats are voting to defund the public schools attended by the kids of their own overworked and underpaid staff

It’s not the most important thing to object to about this, but I’m also just like constantly shouting, “you, sir, are a politician. You are not Errol Morris. You never will be Errol Morris. And besides, Errol Morris did this already.”

I realize I don’t know a ton of people who don’t get already get how tyrannical this is, but Jesus Christ, if you don’t, please take a minute and think about it.

US state governments— you are also allowed to find nerves and touch them.

Truly, government by “only read the headline, not the actual article.”

Nickel Boys at our house.

Sorry but what is the point of negotiating with a person like Mike Johnson who will shake your hand and say you have a deal and then summon vandals through the back door to take everything he just gave you? What am I not understanding here? Am I stupid?

All I will say is if people are still arguing about how to do your protest at noon on the day you’re having it, it needs to be planned better. This kind of action is important. It’s only going to become more important. Treat it that way.

Just got out of a kid’s birthday party and, Fuck right off.

OSHA fines are too low and inspectors can't simply stop work even after, as in this case, workers keep getting killed on the job. When a firm like Phenix Lumber refuses to make its workplace safe, OSHA does not have the tools to stop the killing. A must read article by @tcfrankel.bsky.social.

Look if you believe death camps are bad, but are perfectly willing to coddle people who don’t think death camps are bad because they expedite you getting the things you want, you don’t really believe death camps are that bad.

I do think this critique is fair and important. But we really aren’t reckoning with the ways politics is responsible for so much of this. Government systems aren’t bad because the people who designed them are dumb. Political choices result in the systems we have. 1/ www.nytimes.com/2025/02/07/o...

Presumably Musk has Zuckerberg’s SNN now, too, which you’d think would make him angry if he wasn’t such a loser weenie.

“The newspapers are becoming more and more like copies of a school magazine. There is nothing in them but new rules, new punishments, and lists of people who have been ‘kept in.’” — Christopher Isherwood, “Goodbye to Berlin.”

Everybody read this.

Live by the TE drop, die by the TE drop.

Oh YEAH it’s “honor of a lifetime” season, motherfuckers

Was a little late sitting down with @mangiotto.bsky.social’s 50 Best this year. Maybe I was saving it. It’s one of the only year-end pieces that doesn’t feel like an arbitrary rearrangement of PR. It honors movies a lot more than any awards show. filmfreakcentral.net/2024/12/the-...

It’s not a nice thing to think about, but I think it should be common practice, when naming children, to consider that what you choose might one day become the title of a terrible law.

Look I just think you can immediately tell if your column is self-serving and only self-serving if it prominently features your own 30-year old trademarked catchphrase. It’s pretty simple.

So delighted to have stumbled into book-heavy social media here. #books2024 #books #booksky * my mom borrowed Small Things Like These last week ** it’s been scientifically proven that this is exactly the normal number of books for last year, but cheers to all the freaks
