As Trump floods the zone, here's my advice to the media on how to push back and still hold him to account without being disoriented or deflected by his 'gish galloping'. An extract from my book, 'Win Every Argument,' published in The Atlantic in 2023:

Whenever you hear someone sneer about scientific research that seems useless to them — “they’re studying the spit of lizards?!” — remind them that’s exactly how we got Ozempic. globalnews.ca/news/9793403...

this is the sort of thing you post when you’re ramping up to defying lawful court orders

Trump is erasing Black history : The Tuskegee Airmen no longer exist. Trump has removed them from Air Force teaching curriculum — This MF 🤬

The USAF removed Tuskegee Airmen & Women Airforce Service Pilots of WWII from basic training curriculum. For 30 years I promised these women I would not let them ever be forgotten again. We worked for decades to have them remembered. The Airmen too. Knowledge is power. 🗃️ www.msn.com/en-us/societ...

A tale of Elon and his apologists: Elon lets Nazis back on his platform - "he's defending free speech" He regularly amplifies supremacist ideologies, memes and conspiracy theories - "he's doing it for engagement" He does the Nazi salute (twice) - "he has autism-ish" Elon is a Nazi. The End.

This is the cowardice of The New York Times. Legacy media is failing.

The guy spend a chunk of his childhood in an internment camp because our government thought he might be dangerous because he was of Japanese descent. He was also gay when you were forced to hide it. It’s been much worse for a lot of people in our history. George knows what he’s talking about.

Wisdom right here from @glenmatlock.bsky.social - they'll all find out soon enough.

Everyone in the media needs to read this comment below. While the legacy media is telling itself the problem is disappointed voters who need a break, the truth is customers disappointed in the content they are being offered and the patronizing responses.

Trump will not deport migrants working for the companies of his friends and donors, and he will grant tariff exemptions for the companies of his friends and donors. Watch.

Also: If you don't have money to buy my (or anyone's) books, and you live in the anglosphere, before you pirate them, try to get them from your local library instead. They have it or can get it, they pay for the books, and in many places writers get paid for their books being lent. Everyone wins!

Let's talk about how to report on right-wingers without amplifying their hateful rhetoric. Far-right extremists count on YOU to spread their messages for them. Here's a thread of resources. 1) The Oxygen of Amplification: Better Practices for Reporting on Extremists, Antagonists, and Manipulators

I've been thinking about this poem by Langston Hughes recently and although it was published in 1931, it remains relevant as ever. #books #reading #booksky #poetry

Many of us are echoing @timothysnyder.bsky.social's lesson in On Tyranny, "Do not obey in advance.” A no less vital admonition that deserves attn: STAND OUT “...without that unease, there is no freedom. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow."

As everyone here has been saying, this is not an echo chamber

1.2 Millions Americans died because of his negligence, while he was sending our lifesaving supplies to Putin.

I’m not saying the Xodus is unstoppable, but I am saying my mum just forwarded me an email from her local theatre explaining why they’re moving to Bluesky. If you’ve lost South Oxfordshire amateur dramatics, you stand to lose a whole lot more.

So are we going to start having a conversation about what may be about to happen to resourcing for USA libraries, archives, and museums, if the federal cuts go ahead...? And which ones are obviously most likely to be targeted? and what we can do in advance of January to support? data lifeboats?

I'll remind y'all that @laurahelmuth.bsky.social and I both did battle with RFK Jr. years ago. I wrote many times on what an anti-science ass he was and still is. Him running HHS could very well be the single worst disaster of the incoming administration. slate.com/technology/2...
