So what does "ending world hunger" mean? Some seem to assume if someone like Mark just goes out and buys food for everyone, that would do the job. Where does this food come from? It's not sitting around waiting to be bought by Mark. How long will he be buying this food? In perpetuity?

Mail-in ballots play a key role in maintaining our democracy, Congress must prevent T from taking over USPS. One more stone in the foundation of American democracy along with independent press and judiciary, and military committed to the Constitution, not the individual who happens to be president.

Steve Bannon did a Sieg Heil at CPAC. I'm a 3rd generation Holocaust survivor. My grandparents met in a Concentration Camp. My grandfather's wife & young daughter were murdered. My grandmother's brothers were murdered. Her mother died in her arms from starvation. Is THIS what life in America is NOW?

BREAKING: The Associated Press sues three Trump administration officials over access to presidential events, citing the First Amendment.

Trump pardoned the sentence of arguably the single biggest drug trafficker in American history on his second day in office!

Of course. But being the party standing up for those fired will mean a lot to those fired and their families. It will also show the country that they are trying to bring order to chaos. And if they can get any Republican support at all, that's huge leverage for March 14

Canceling the measurement of economic impacts from climate change doesn’t make those costs — approx. $2 trillion for the U.S. economy this decade — go away. Instead, it will likely push them onto citizens. New, from @abrahm.bsky.social @propublica.org

Congestion pricing, like free trade and other pro-market policies, is obviously going to be unacceptable to Kremlin-backed nationalist statists.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” -Theodore Roosevelt

There goes T's hope for a cure for himself--if he is able to remember that he needs the cure.

A dictatorship hosting another dictatorship to negotiate with an aspiring dictatorship about the future of a democracy that’s not represented.

I was just an Education Department guy under Reagan and the most junior WH senior staffer under G.H.W. Bush, so what do I know? But if I were an ex-president, and the current president were executing the most disastrous turn in American foreign policy in 80 years, I think I might say something?

Wesleyan president: “This is an administration that is prioritizing loyalty and attacking people who stand for their own ideals and missions. That is the authoritarian playbook. If I were hiding, maybe they would never notice us. But that’s how tyranny gets instituted in a country."

Every aspect of the Rubio-Lavrov talks in Riyadh is bad. Negotiating over the head of Ukraine indicates a sellout. Excluding the Europeans reveals indifference to Ukraine's future economic reconstruction (since the Europeans will pay the largest share).

The opportunities to learn have always been there. Libraries. And, later, Google, Wikipedia. AI won't teach critical thinking (although one can practice critical thinking while engaging it). It won't teach serious reading. It won't teach evaluating and comparing sources. 1/2

Bill Kristol of The Bulwark posted: “It's heartening that today the leaders of the two major parties in Germany are unequivocally anti-Nazi and anti-fascist. It's horrifying that today the president and vice-president of the United States of America are not.” 1/3

We need Pete Buttigieg as a clear messenger, more than ever.

The impending Trump sell-out of Ukraine has no basis in any genuine US interest. Pro-Trump foreign-policy "realism" (so called) is a corrupt exercise in confecting excuses for a disgrace and disaster based entirely on the shadowy and sinister Trump-Putin connection.

The average person with the flu gives it to around 1.4 people. The average person with measles gives it to between 12 and 18 people.

I like that he posted a picture of a print-out of the email.

We must figuratively (not literally) stick to our guns.

As a political scientist who studies countries that managed to stop the slide into authoritarianism, I can assure you that ***refraining from provoking the authoritarian*** is not how it works. Without further ado, I will now go tear out another chunk of hair.

This tax season, we're here to remind you about TurboTax's 20-year fight to stop Americans from filing their taxes for free. (Published Oct. 2019)

Maybe incompetent #tantrum_anarchism. Or does 'tantrum anarchism' imply incompetence?

At a minimum. I urged SuperBowl ads.

The Department of Government Efficiency isn't interested in efficiency. Or transparency, or cutting costs. It's real goal is to destroy the federal civil service. In other words, regime change. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Petty, petty. Tantrum anarchism.

Surprise!

That's why the put impeachment and Senate trial into the Constitution. We can only pray that the third time is the charm. And impeach the VP too. And arrest Musk for who knows how many violations of law.

If the White House press corps doesn't walk out in solidarity for the AP they're not gonna do it for anyone.

Don't compare Trump to Neville Chamberlain. Chamberlain did not personally like the dictator he dealt with. Chamberlain did not staff his ministry with pro-dictator enthusiasts. Chamberlain was not helped into office in the first place by that dictator. From Churchill's eulogy:

An old man in physical and mental decline, consumed by anger, greed, and insecurity. Tantrum anarchy.

Not that anyone cares but a bunch of senior doj officials resigning over a corrupt instruction to drop a case was what triggered the Nixon impeachment, and in the Trump era it's just the 2pm scandal of a random Thursday and every day now has ~3 such scandals that would have ended any prior admin

The kind of foreign policy statement a Secretary of State should make, not a Secretary of Defense who prefers playing soldier with his subordinates over doing the homework his position requires. And may studying appeasement and the career of Neville Chamberlain.

Just a matter of which style you assign. Change the style and you can go back-and-forth as easy as pie.

"Protests by military families against a defense secretary are extremely rare..." www.nbcnews.com/politics/nat...

The Democratic Party's calculation appears to be that raising hell about what Trump is doing will make them look obstructionist, partisan, and "sour-grapey" while painting him as a man of action taking bold steps on presisng problems. This is wrong and dumb.

Elon is expected to turn DOGE's budget-slashing sights on the FAA’s little-known commercial spaceflight office, which has proposed fines and grounded SpaceX after explosions and other incidents. New, from @heathervogell.bsky.social @propublica.org

Politics Girl on that other medium tells it like it is. Go listen to her. She calls out former presidents, ambassadors, Speakers of the House, military leaders to step up and tell Trump and American that they won't stand for his behavior. LIsten to her.
