I mean, “great tits” is going to sound kinda dirty no matter what. Might as well lean into it, lol

Never been to Mexico, but in other countries where I didn’t need a visa, passport control did usually ask questions about when and how I’d be leaving. When entering a country as a tourist, it’s good to have a return ticket or other plan to depart (even if you might need to change that plan later)

I don’t think you need a visa for Mexico if you’re a U.S. citizen doing short term-ish tourism.

I’m sure the system here isn’t perfect, but both this and an ER visit I made back in 2007 were way faster than anything in the US. And that ER doctor took under 10 minutes to correctly diagnose an issue that my American doctors had been stumped by for several years

This hasn’t stopped them from asking me to send them the good photos so they can text them to friends, though. 😆 (My other camera is a Canon, so this is not just a second camera body but also more lenses, chargers, etc)

When I go out, there’s an insurmountable gap between my values and sense of reality and almost everyone else’s. I do feel like bluesky has taken the place off that—it was such a relief to find a bunch of queer, COVID-cautious, leftist nerds to talk to.

COVID really changed things for me. I eventually started going out again (still masked), but after seeing how angry people were about masking, how insistent they were about going “back to normal” at the expense of everyone else’s safety, I don’t have much goodwill for unmasked strangers in public.

I had a certain amount of confidence that, on the whole, people were decent and that I was a slightly odd but basically likable person.

Pre-COVID I wasn’t on social media much and felt pretty good about my social life. I was a regular at a few coffee places and bars and went out to shows pretty often. I’d go out by myself but either run into friends or chat with strangers or read a book.

That’s the impression I get, too. I’ve really noticed it when my stepkid is watching Minecraft videos. Just hearing it stresses me out. It’s not just that people speak rapidly, there aren’t pauses for breath.

Oh, that’s a great point about COVID! I like having some scents, but I’m picky about which. And i stick to a very mild intensity (scented laundry detergent but no dryer sheets; scented deodorant but no body spray, etc)

Yes! It’s so chaotic! Why put 5 different scented things all within 3 meters of each other?! Just pick one favorite. The last place was WAY over-scented, but I can at least understand why someone might do it if they really liked the fragrance (and had a weak sense of smell and no allergies)

Agreed, starting your stay with an extra fee doesn’t set a good tone for the rest of your visit. It’s okay if no rooms are ready early, but it’s frustrating to get nickel and dimed at every turn.

Everything but history, I guess

ALSO: make sure there are no little barcode stickers from previous trips lurking elsewhere on your bag.

Good luck! I’ve heard that it helps to be EXTREMELY hydrated.

I mean, mine are FAR cheaper, which probably simplifies things at customs 😆

The US and UK expressly allow knitting needles, but most European airports I’ve flown through in the past say that they’re not allowed. I guess because they’re in the “pointed objects longer than 6cm” category. I know people often get away with it, but it seems iffy.

Yeah. Best case, if it was built with a common CMS, you could spin up a new instance and look at the archived HTML for clues to how the data was structured before (I mostly use Drupal, which tends to put info like field names in element IDs or classes) Still fussy and hard to automate, though :-/

But also, FMLA leave isn’t paid. You’re entitled to take the time off and get your job back afterwards, but your employer isn’t obligated to pay you during that time (unless you’re using your accrued PTO).
comment in response to post
Yeah, an employer can ask you to get a second opinion from a medical provider of their choice, but I don’t think they can deny FMLA leave because of their own (management/HR) opinions about the medical necessity. (Idk about situations where FMLA doesn’t apply, though)

If someone’s that fickle, then their “friends” are probably right to keep their freak outs secret instead of explaining all of the personal details.

And we’re not entitled to explanations of everyone’s emotional state!

Sorry to hear that 😞 I hope it’s mild and you have an easy recovery!

Yes! I was in the habit of using Google maps, but accidentally used Apple Maps instead a while back and it felt like a huge improvement. The spoken directions are phrased like “at the next stop light…” instead of “in 300 feet…” AND give me enough time to change lanes.

Oh wow, that sounds way more manageable than I’d expected! Good to know
