The consumption of media requires something different than the parsing of art. It never won't. Art is too big of an idea to fit through your head by just what you get. But you get better at parsing it the more you take up the challenge.

How much media did we grow up with that we didn't learn to appreciate until older ages? I grew up with hip hop and yet I know I didn't experience my true love for it until I was 16 years old.

A lot of audiences do not like work that comes with homework, but most art should require crucial re-discovery. How many times did we come across Shakespeare in our rudimentary education before we could go "Yeah, that play is actually my favorite?"

A not insignificant part of me being okay with Peppa is the sheer cynicism and profit motive behind Paw Patrol. But again, there are lessons to be learned there about crafting structure.
And making it in absolutely addictive television even if the story is bland at best.

Blessedly, we listen to it on Spotify rather than watch it on TV

And while I am looking at this to the lens of my own genres (romance, horror, and historical fiction), I donāt think thereās a genre out there this canāt help with.

Thereās a reason advice columns say write what you know. Memoirs help you tap in to what other people know at an intimate level.

Just for funsies, what about Fourth Wing?
Turning point is (spoilers!) when Xaden believes Violet about the assassination and Dain doesnāt.
Yeah, both the entire damn mystery/action side and the romance side of that book is about trust.
Yeah. Yeah, Bellās on to something.

Bellās argument in chapter 1 is that the turning point is what the storyās about.
Checks out for Jurassic Park, the midpoint is when the T Rex breaks loose, the movieās action is about dinosaurās run amok, the movieās theme is about human hubris and the inability to control nature
Yeah, checks out

Fourth act has the same structure, but it inverts the pinch point: in most literature the climax is a pinch point for the antagonist as the protagonist triumphs.

First act modifies this heavily, but itās still there as hook/characterization, inciting event, key event. You can view it as a lower stakes version of the same structure in later acts.
(Also, we need an edit function here)

Also, while Iām at it - I enjoy PokĆ©mon more but Digimon absolutely has the better character designs
(Both are loved though, this is not a dig in either)
