Not atheist, secular. Also it would probably be more accurate to say it "was" rather than "is" 😢

You saved your life my friend. You did it, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

What did your atheist mouth say? Or were you speaking out your ass? 🤣😂

If it works for you, I'm happy.

I worry about it because believing fake narratives while it can be useful in the short term, builds castles in the sky. Its basing your continued sobriety on an external factor that is made of sand. But my goal was not to dive into my many problems and history with AA. 😊
comment in response to post
If it can be an inanimate object with no power how is it a higher power? I understand that there's an effort to soften the religious roots of AA but this is just playing with semantics. If a rock is a higher power, then what's the point of the step? I can't surrender to a rock.

In AA you also require belief in a higher power. 😂 I agree with the sentiment of your post, just thought the comparison to AA was funny/ironic.

Laziness? 😂

I choose to give my opinion. You made a claim about many atheists and I gave a more nuanced take. I had no idea of how you were using "history" and that you were using a broad meaning that covers many other things. I accepted it and clarified. You clearly are looking to fight. I'll leave you to it.

I see if that is what you call history, then they can be a decent source for thoughts. I was referring to historical events i.e. the exodus from Egypt, the conquest of Canaan, etc. You keep calling it a blanket dismissal when it's not. It's putting it at the same level as other texts of the time.

There are also Muslims, Christians, etc. Not all Israelis are Jewish.
comment in response to post
I'll also say that the Jews were no better or worse than any of their contemporary tribes in that region at that time. Modern Jews are way too diverse to paint them with any sort of common brush so anyone that says they are all evil is just an antisemitic asshole.
comment in response to post
I'm sure they have plenty of history, just that the religious texts are not a good or reliable source for the history. I'd say the same for any ancient text. Did you bother to read what I said or are you just trying to argue no matter what?

Glad to hear it. Community is important.

Hi random stranger that appeared in my feed whose religious affiliation I do not know nor think matters much. As I'm talking historical value, I was more talking Torah than Talmud. Though the Talmud is probably more interesting for learning Jewish morality.

You need to pick better meetings. Last one I went to we had a pub quiz, talks about separation of state and church, a few workshops, activism groups, etc.
comment in response to post
Religious writings are big books of multiple choice. You can pick and choose whatever narrative you want from the books by selecting passages. Regarding the Jewish text specifically, I don't think it has much value as a history book but it is interesting to see the moral values of the authors.

If atheism is a religion, off is a tv channel.

Matt 6:5-6 is also a good one.

Blondes do have more fun.

I agree, just like those Christians that still hold to pagan morals and rituals. You should reject everything you believed when you change your mind on one thing.

I guess "lesser of two evils" has worked perfectly so far. 😂

Is this a serious argument or are you just farming for engagement?

You can also just watch anything else or nothing at all. 😂

It's not a gotcha. We all see and experience weird stuff or stuff we can't explain in our lives. The question is how to go from "I don't know how to explain it" to "it was god". That's the delusion. There is nothing to say god cannot be detected empirically, he just hasn't yet. We're waiting.

The theist would know if they are wrong if they wake up in the "wrong" afterlife.

The irony of the absolute monarch of a theocracy advocating for the separation of state and religion. 😂

Funny thing is the founding father might have been OK with a Sikh member of congress but definitely not with a female one.

@phantasmajones.net also disabled quote replies but leaves the original up. Love how this is the internet and nothing is ever gone. Seems like praying for me is working out great lol.

Don't worry, you'll get there. Not everyone has the skills to deal with a reality with no god.

Calling an SOB an SOB is not reddit atheism, it's the correct response.

bots had a field day with hew pope. Funny thing is many memes were created to trigger MAGA but ended up making atheists like the catholic church. 😂😂

I'm gonna leave it up to my family to decide. I won't be around anyway so whatever helps them the most. I've only asked for no religious ceremonies but I've also told my wife that if that creates family drama she can just do whatever makes her grief easier.

It is partly, but using words in a mutually agreed way is important for communication. Sin vs evil, faith vs trust, etc. are all discussions that go on and on and tend to be based on definitions. Sin is a religious concept for many atheists, hence why it doesn't exist.
comment in response to post
That's not the definition of sin. Sin is a religious concept. To a theist, evil is a sin. To an atheist "sin" is as imaginary as god. Just trying to explain why an atheist might say there is no sin while agreeing with you that there is evil in the world.
comment in response to post
Sin is an offense against god. There is no god, there is no sin. Evil on the other hand, that we got plenty of.
