So… are those federal workers who are “reinstated” because they work in Republican states? “Murkowski said Susie Wiles told Republican senators she doesn’t know about problem unless someone alerts her. Wiles invited Republican senators to call her when they can’t get specific funding unlocked”

Ummm…. “If the government buys a tank, that’s GDP,” Lutnick said. “But paying 1,000 people to think about buying a tank is not GDP. That is wasted inefficiency, wasted money. we’re going to get rid of that …This is going to be the best economy anybody’s ever seen.”

The federal government will recognize Aboriginal title over the archipelago of Haida Gwaii in a historic agreement with the Haida First Nation. The Big Tide Haida Title Lands Agreement transitions the Crown-title land to the Haida people, granting them an inherent legal right to the land.

Some guys think that airplanes should be lighter and cost less to operate. And honestly, a lot of people agree with that so they just start hacking away at the plane, removing parts and dismantling systems without any regard for or understanding of how it all works. And we are all on that plane.

“And it will be even more so if Putin is rewarded for invading Ukraine. It is military defeats that bring down dictators, let's remember Hitler, Mussolini or Milosevic. Trump is proving him right, Putin will be even stronger in his public opinion. And, if we don't do something, he won't stop.”

“Canada, China and Mexico represent HALF of all U.S. agricultural exports — even with the tariff pause, Canadian buyers don't trust the stability of U.S. export commerce with Trump in office. Plus, Canadians are just flat-out pissed and avoiding U.S. farm products.”

Trump’s order to release billions of gallons of water in California’s Central Valley last week: “No one can make heads or tails out of what Donald Trump did or why, or thinks it makes any sense whatsoever,” Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) Because Water Futures spiked. That’s why. Follow the money.

It’s not just tariffs (threatened or actual). The federal government is the nation's largest employer. In addition to federal systems being shuttered, we WILL have an economic ripple from these shutdowns from unemployment and canceled contracts. I’m not seeing people talk about this enough.

The USPS just suspended the acceptance of packages from China and Hong Kong until further notice.

“Credit card interest rates are out of control. Rates have DOUBLED in recent years. In 2022 alone, credit cards charged Americans $105 billion in interest. Today Bernie Sanders and I are teaming up to introduce a 10% cap on interest rates.” — Josh Hawley

As @rmkubinec.bsky.social pointed out, most Americans have financial instability. We need gov systems to support that most income pays interest on loans (credit card, mortgage, student loans). Plus, “40% of Americans have a min bal of $500 or less in their checking account.” — Yahoo Finance 1/12/25

“But the price of…” strawberries? Our local grocery — which is committed to giving reasonable prices and supports our community, so not price gouging — had this for 🍓 today. Question is why. … Because of field workers not showing up afraid of ICE? Usually strawberries are $6-8 this time of year.
