It is critical for all of us to understand and utilize whatever privilege we have to stand up against authoritarianism and fascism.
Many non tenured faculty members, general faculty, staff, and students are unable to speak out explicitly for fear of losing their jobs or student status.

I went to "good" public schools in Virginia for 17 years (wtf) and didn't learn what the civil war was really about until I was 16 and got into an argument with someone on the internet. I was taught "states rights" and even made to call it the "war of northern aggression" by one teacher.
