Oh wow. Lanes on I-10 narrowed suddenly, forcing ALL drivers to exit at a weigh station. A makeshift checkpoint—digital sign read: “Have Passport Ready” 1 of like 12 ICE agents, all standing around—in full military gear—ordered me to open my window: “You a U.S. citizen?” “Uh yes” then let me go..

Thank you to the student reporter who shared this video of me speaking yesterday on the steps of the Rotunda in protest of the authoritarian takeover of the University of Virginia. We can not afford to stand down in the face of fascism. Leverage whatever privilege you have to fight back.

I feel like I'm losing my mind. Here is the transcript of what Zohran Mamdani actually said about the phrase "globalize the intifada." This is his "refusal to disavow it." This is what has people terrified. Just fucking read it. Source: podscripts.co/podcasts/the...

Metaphor alert.

The Right really is in disarray because they cannot seem to figure out if they should push “Zohran Mamdani is going to bring Sharia Law” or “Zohran Mamdani treats his wife with too much equality” as a smear campaign, so they are doing both.

A sign of hope when you get to see one of your students speaking out courageously for what’s right! @emgunter.bsky.social

My latest in the Guardian where I argue that @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social position on Palestine was not a liability, but that the Palestine movement and its organizers are why he won. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I haven’t yet had the words to express my dismay at Jim Ryan’s ouster at UVa. Tbh, my heart still aches for my students & colleagues who were brutally arrested during their peaceful encampment last May. 1/?

Another one of my favorite things from yesterday's protest at the Rotunda was when I encouraged everyone to do a call and response when the people in the back couldn't hear the speaker from the faculty senate. It was so fucking cool.

“It [immigration courtrooms] is a banana republic. I mean, people are stripped of due process.” NYC comptroller & former mayoral candidate, @bradlander.bsky.social tells @mehdirhasan.bsky.social that Democrats need to call for the abolition of ICE & take action. Watch: zeteo.com/p/they-use-u...

The BBC censored Kneecap’s performance to avoid broadcasting Pro-Palestinian sentiment so artist Bobby Vylan came out, Live on BBC, and led chants for Palestine instead.

The rise of people like Lander and Walz, whose ideologies don't exactly match mine but have the exact right combination of "love thy neighbor" and "fuck you, asshole" attitudes, is massive positive for people who care about left of center politics

Viktor Orban banned pride events in Hungary, the people took it as a challenge and just had the largest pride march in their country's history.

My favorite part of this video, aside from the "Fuck Trump!" is that you can IMMEDIATELY tell who attended UVA as a student when the "wahoo-wa, wahoo-wa, uni-v-virgin-i-a" part starts.

My professors at UVA taught me the importance of leveraging our relative positions of privilege to speak where others can not. Yesterday I spoke on the steps of UVA's Rotunda in protest of the authoritarian takeover of our school. Dozens of people came up to thank me for saying what they could not.

Professor @dem8z.bsky.social speaking on the steps of the Rotunda yesterday in protest of the authoritarian takeover of higher education.

August 11, 2017 - white nationalists march the lawn with tiki torches, no police intervention May 4, 2024 - students protest israel's ongoing genocide of palestine, riot police beat and arrest protesters it's not about the protesting, it's what we're protesting

Justice Jackson did not come to play today (Birthright citizenship/nationwide injunctions)

Smart commentary by @sivav.bsky.social on UVa-the university Thomas Jefferson built-President's resignation. Ongoing elite capitulation to the authoritarian moves of the Trump regime is only going to speed up the dismantling of democracy in America. Time to sieze the political will where it exists.

I'm going to try to go to bed now. Everyone please remember to be kind to yourselves and others. Our fight will be long but we will prevail.
