The beautiful thing about leaving the US for the first time is leaving the US. The bad thing is realizing that you will eventually have to come back to the US. But, thankfully, you can always leave again.

I lived in Taiwan last summer and things are very dense and it's amazing. There's also intentional green spaces. Giant parks. In both the places I lived, I was less than a km away from day markets and numerous food places. Bus stops are abundant and headways are short.

Two more days!

A landlord lawyer in a discrimination case just literally told me that it's my job as a professional to get my client to accept the landlord's position because otherwise the economy couldn't function and “what's the point of [your] expertise if it isn't for that purpose?“

I have in general become way less tolerant of ‘crunchy’ bullshit since ascension of people like RFK jr. to actual power. Sorry but the obnoxious Reddit science and logic guys were right, you should be scorned for believing objectively wrong things about consequential issues.

To say legacy media is not built for this moment is a gross understatement. The people destroying this country are being treated with respect.

A federal judge has permanently barred the Trump administration from using the Alien Enemies Act to deport Venezuelans it labeled as criminals from his home district in southern Texas to a prison in El Salvador. The decision was issued by Judge Fernando Rodriguez Jr., a Trump appointee.

On the first anniversary, I am re-sharing an essay I wrote for @lukeoneil47.bsky.social's Hellworld about the attack on UCLA's Palestinian solidarity encampment. It has minor updates, a couple of public records, and a shoutout to @jesspish.bsky.social. www.joeyscott.xyz/college-students-rise-up/

Happy May Day everyone. Here is a drawing I did of August Spies, one of the haymarket martyrs, addressing the court after being sentenced to die.

Happy May Day to all the workers of the world

What an image! Venezuelan men who narrowly avoided being imprisoned by Trump in El Salvador without trial (saved by the Supreme Court) spelled out an SOS to a @reuters.com camera drone observing the Bluebonnet ICE facility. 11 days ago, buses to the airport were turned around at the last second.

The Encampments documentary film is coming to UVA! This screening is taking place on the 1-year anniversary of UVA president Jim Ryan unleashing a multi-agency riot squad on student protestors who were demanding divestment from the Israeli apartheid state.

We are thrilled to hear that the city schools will be getting this property and UVA will not be getting this property!

Fuck you UVA! Fuck your land grabbing bullshit!

I would love to have one day this year where my cortisol is not through the roof

I don't think the antisemitic Christians who think Jews killed Jesus and that Jews need to be converted, forcibly if necessary, or killed when Jesus comes back, are that interested in fighting antisemitism. But who am I to judge.* *I'm a Jewish historian, that's who I am
