A lot of federal employees attended the protests this weekend, in spite of the potential for retaliation or blowback. I heard from a bunch of them. "I am angry. And so many other feds are too."

Here’s how to stay in the fight: 📱 Use the 5 Calls app or Resist Bot to contact your elected officials daily. 🎤 Demand town halls. Show up at their public appearances. 🚫 Boycott evil corporations. 🗣️ Talk to your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors. 🌳 Build community power. #FiftyFiftyOne

West Coast numbers are coming in, and estimates have now surpassed 5 million. People are still pouring into the streets—nearly 2% of the American population is rising up. America, we are so proud of you. You did it.

Absolutely proud of you all! HUG! So far, 3.1 million protesters counted today — that’s nearly 1% of the U.S. population! Photos are flooding social media everywhere. Still waiting on more numbers to come in.

Hands off DC protest with @algreen.house.gov

Ready for today! We have to stand up and fight while we still have the right to

Breaking character: Today’s nationwide protest are going to be huge and historic. Trump’s approval rating is dropping like a rock. Now is the time to step on the gas.

From a source at NIH: “Right now NIH’s ability to buy things is dead. Nearly all people with the power to make an order — purchasing people — have been removed. The NIH hospital can’t buy medicines, the labs can’t buy petri dishes. X-Ray machine breaks? Too bad. Everything is stopped”

"Bhattacharya is best understood as a tool of rightwing billionaires—and their agenda to privatize NIH, corrupt universities, take away academic freedom, and destroy real science by turning NIH into a rightwing thinktank." New contributed post from us on tariff day: 📰 1/3 altnih4science.subst...

A man calling himself “Daddy Warbucks” and dressed like the Monopoly mascot is greeting people with this sign as we exit the White House The tariffs “are the dumbest idea imaginable,” says the man, who gives his real name as Gary Rush of DC

Secretary Kennedy has said that making HHS more efficient means getting rid of administrative bloat. But is it only administrators getting “streamlined”? Happy April Fools Day, except this is not remotely funny.

The horror show continues at NIH I am hearing (reliably) that RIFs have started with entire institute Communication branches being terminated since their jobs not longer exist (reduction in force). But that is not all...

What a heartbreaking day. Hearing about tons of my colleagues losing their jobs. Heartless and clearly with a focus on making America sick with infectious and chronic diseases again and always

A band I saw a lot in concert when I was in college. Thank you for standing up against everything that is happening. We need all the advocates and supporters that are out there

1/ We wanted to take a moment to quickly introduce you to our HHS reporters. THREAD 🧵

The staff at this public elementary school in DC showed far more courage than an Ivy with $15 billion endowment

The founder of Signal releases a response to SignalGate: “There are so many great reasons to be on Signal. Now including the opportunity for the vice president of the United States of America to randomly add you to a group chat for coordination of sensitive military operations.”

It’s like Watergate, only in this version Nixon directly mails the tapes to Woodward and Bernstein

Fired! Acting NIH Dir. Matthew Memoli has just fired me from my membership in the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences' Division of Translational Toxicology. 1/2 @altnih4science.bsky.social

99.4% of new drugs approved by the FDA are the product of NIH funded research. Remember this every time you see another headline on the NIH funding cuts. It will directly impact YOU. #ScienceNOTSilence

Hearing multiple reports now that Trump/Musk people are sitting in senior NIH leadership meetings quietly watching and taking notes. Like Soviet communist political officers (apparatchiks), there to enforce the authoritarian political agenda.

I woke up this morning and the first thing on my Instagram feed was this atrocity of a post from an account I've never followed. This kind of shit is exactly why all social platforms should be decentralized and not owned by shithead incel billionaires. Trump and the GOP are fascists. #resist

BREAKING: @indivisible.org calls on Senator Schumer to step down as minority leader after voting in favor of GOP funding bill. “Our democracy is in danger. The path ahead will be hard. Indivisibles are ready to do the work - it’s time for a Senate Democratic Leader who is too.” Full statement:

Massive die-in in front of the New York Stock Exchange to protest the illegal cuts by DOGE and the Trump administration.

American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

If the Democratic Party doesn't change and meet the moment it deserves to fail and become obsolete.

Incredibly disappointed with the democrats. You are complicit now with everything that is happening #dcstatehood

These are the senators who collaborated with the GOP. Schumer Fetterman Cortez Masto Durbin King Shaheen Gillibrand Schatz Hassan Peters Don’t let them forget it. No peace for them.

he’s literally delusional

DC has a population greater than Vermont or Wyoming (and equivalent to Alaska or Delaware). Just try to imagine the apocalyptic levels of outrage we'd see on every airwave if the federal government tried to impound Wyoming's budget, and shuttered its single largest employer.

Why lay off teachers in the middle of the school year? Why cut police while working to reduce crime? Why defund Metro while it wins back riders? That is exactly what the CR does to DC — without saving the federal government a dime. It is undemocratic, un-American, and undermines self-governance.

A senator for the people…

Over 50 mass shootings across the US already in 2025 and more than 60 children killed by guns. Shame we don’t have an AG this energised about protecting kids rather than cars.

Republicans: *dismantling the government with a sickening gleeful abandon* Democrats: 🤷‍♂️ If we do something they will dismantle the government.

"I don’t get paid if there’s a shutdown but shutting the government down and putting up a fight is preferable to giving in." "Every single one of my colleagues supports a shutdow." "Everyone I know in my office was hoping the Dems would grow a spine and shut the government down."

The RTO for the greater FDA was pushed to Monday. This is where our friends and fellow workers will be placed. Fucking shit ass full of traffic non secure no electricity having hallways and lobbies.

Think about that 60-some-year-old South Korean senator who was literally climbing over walls to vote for impeachment as martial law was imposed in the country and then looking at…. Chuck Schumer.

NEW: I heard from a *bunch* of federal employees tonight with more backbone that Chuck Schumer. Spread the word! "Shutdowns suck, but what we’re experiencing is something much much worse and now is the moment to stand against it or you’re abdicating your duty as an elected official.”

Chuck Schumer’s office phone is (202) 224-6542. If no one answers, it’s probably because they’re too busy screwing over the people of DC.

😂

Showing up:”We are residents of the District of Columbia,” said Miriam Goldstein, a parent of twin 9-year-olds. “We have no senators, so we are here to talk with you anyway.” (Gift link) www.nytimes.com/2025/03/13/u...
