Tim.
"The European Economic Area, abbreviated as EEA, consists of the Member States of the European Union (EU) and three countries of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) (Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway; excluding Switzerland)."
I'll give you a pass on Switzerland (who knew) but *Sweden*?

having in 1967 taken out "Teach Yourself Finnish" prior to a summer job in Helsinki.
Immediately one of the staff saw the Hungarian book there was "So you've finished with Finnish then?"
Funny at the time. But by the tenth time not so much so the talksport one was an exception.

P.S. We are quite used to mis-usages of "Finnish" here. That one wasn't the first or the last but unlike most of them it was genuinely funny.
I've heard them since 1969 when I went to Crewe Library (where I had worked weekends as a boy so they knew me) and took out Teach Yourself Hungarian ...

Possible.
(But I think I would have got the joke if you had been close because I really did think that he must have a goalkeeper son playing somewhere in Scotland and I knew about the Talksport thing - all over the news here).
As an off-the-cuff comment it would have been truly great but for that!

have been a reference to a son of Antti Niemi.
The background to that is that the former Bolton goalkeeper Jussi Jääskeläinen (of roughly the same era) has a son who played for a couple of years as number one goalkeeper for Crewe. He was neither called Jussi nor Anthony!

The reason they interviewed 3 ministers from PS (engl. The Finns) is obvious - PS is a party that is against migration to Finland - but it is still not a suitable technique for a state TV television channel to use.
[All 3 interviewees found the questions difficult and we got no real answers.]

[In fact Eremenko withdrew from selection because of injury. This was, however, announced only on Sunday morning. That is long after HBL went to press.]

Czechoslovakia was a Warsaw Pact state and was dominated by the Soviet Union, but unlike the later-mentioned Latvia ("Soviet Latvia") was not a state within the Soviet Union.
The writer is probably thinking of Melodiya.

What about "freezing weather" blanketting the nation for much of the year?
1. Blanket = all the nation:
Finland is a long country and the weather varies a lot between areas.
2. Freezing temperatures:
South - maybe 3 months of the year. Far North - 6 months?
3. Much of the year:
See above 2.

[As for the football...
I watched the whole women's match; half the Europa League match and (without much interest in the result of either) only a few minutes of both the other finals.
Too much football? Maybe, although it's worth noting that the final 3 matches all started at 22:00 local time.]

Having set up my VPN to Brussels, I was dismayed to find that I needed to register. However they accepted Finland as location and everything worked. (Unfortunately at the cost of daily e-mails about their programs).
The Champions League (from Munich) was available on (German) ZDF, so no problem.

Regretfully this was NOT the FC Bayern official site as I thought but bavarianfootballworks.com
The quote is correct though.

No quiz on his first jersey and bed linen!

Getting as much of it as possible is no doubt the reason Real Madrid have agreed to
a) pay €10 million and
b) cover his wages for June
in order to get Trent Alexander-Arnold to join them 29 days before his contract expires.
Maybe they "get that back" if it means they get to an extra round.

I also note that he has only lived in Sweden since 2013.
This 12 years is, however, 2 years more than the 10 year limit, I wrote about recently, as the time limit for people to think they know all about a country they have moved to.
Clearly, that limit doesn't apply to former FT journalists.

[No doubt thinking about the race riots that followed the stabbing of little girls in nearby Southport.]
Oddly the media (that I've read and heard) in Finland, Germany and Sweden have all avoided the word "white" in their coverage - even the place that included 53 year old; man and "local".

[I will never forget his description of the stadium where Porto play as being "on the banks of the Douro" (which is a description of the city Porto but the stadium the soccer team is quite a way from the river Douro).]
Here, maybe it's Swedish, but shouldn't that be "micro level" discussions?

"I doubt that we can blame PC Pro staff for quoting a person who can't count, but an increase from $20 to $30 is, of course, an increase of a half (and he said "to at least $30" so we're talking about a minimum increase of 50% (half!).

That (pawn hanging) was precisely my "Oops, that doesn't work" moment.
I had such a moment in the penultimate round of a tournament I was leading and didn't take the time on the clock to think cooly about what to do. That position haunted me for almost 50 years...

Yes, Katty Kay (I was afraid of spelling her name incorrectly).
While I have a general objection to X Memberships as unnecessary if the podcast has adverts, the reason I wrote this was using an ad break for a "sign-up" plea while some 10 secs later having a "sign-up" plea within the actual podcast

Probably the same assumption I made between thinking I had the solution; thinking oops I missed that and then "hang on, there's a (as I wrote)"sneaky" answer to that".
Maybe 30 mins in total and I'm glad I didn't give up after 25 mins!
These unrealistic starting positions can be annoying.

First - in the break between items - a plea from the female presenter for listeners to sign up for Founder membership.
After the break, the next item started and almost immediately the word "Musk" was used by the same presenter to push a special series on Musk for Founder Members ... sign up now!
