Deserved

Please, share more websites to replace Amazon for purchases online!! I am looking for alternatives to do shopping online.

Realizing my phone's sound doesn't work and missing two important calls yesterday because of it has caused an unreasonable amount of anxiety.

I forgot how good my time management has gotten? And how quickly things pile up when I don't manage it well? I had to take a few days off from grading and suddenly I have a mountain of grading to finish by Sunday. I cannot wait for spring break.

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

I love all my friends saying things like, “I wish I could make a career off being petty and making diss tracks” after the halftime show, and I’m out here like, “Have you considered academia?”

Unrelated to the chaos going on outside our windows - Does listening to audiobooks count as reading? I'm not sure if it's viewed as lesser than. I don't have time to really read but I've been listening to books on my commute for work.

How are you all taking care of your mental health because I am 🫠🫠🫠

This press conference on the DC crash is an embarrassment. Just a lot of rambling.

After 30 years in the country, my parents are finally American citizens! It's been a long time coming, and there were a few scary times along the way. But I'm glad that even with recent events, we're able to have this small moment of joy.

I can't believe that I still have to do the grading in the middle of a constitutional crisis

In Opinion "I wanted so badly to find the words to unite us, and by extension all U.S. Latinos," Jean Guerrero writes about her relationship with her father, a Trump supporter. "But our unity had always been a fiction."

Everyday I see people warning others ICE going to new locations across my hometown and surrounding cities. Growing up, as the kid of immigrant parents, this was my worst nightmare. As an adult, this is still my worst nightmare and I wish nothing but the best for others going through this.

We are not ready for the financial crashes that are about to hit American higher ed because of these decisions.

Anyone recommend a good system to store qualitative data or screenshots? I've been using an Excel spreadsheet and uploading screenshots to a Google drive but I definitely need a better platform.

I helped out with a report about age verification to this for New America last year, and it's so depressing to see this come again. It was a difficult topic to navigate, and I'm glad to see EFF also talking about this from an LGBTQ+ perspective.

SHARE WIDELY. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS. With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important - for both citizens and non-citizens - to know your rights. You have the right to remain silent. Assert it. You have the right to a lawyer. Ask for one. (1/3)

New season of fresh hell just dropped.

do you guys think the switch 2 will have games

another enforcement action in the gaming space that applies to kids AND teens 👀 bit.ly/3PCEosV

The FTC finalized the COPPA rule after 4+ years. At a time where everyone is focused on advancing protecting for kids online experiences, this is important work! While there is nothing internet-breaking here, there are several big changes. I’ll highlight a few below 🧵 www.ftc.gov/news-events/...

I spent a small part of a lecture on AI and close relationships last semester. My students were so fascinated by the topic, and for most of them, it was the first they learned about this side of AI. I've adjusted my syllabus to have a whole class on it. If anyone has other resources please lmk!

If we had bothered to engage in meaningful data regulation and education over the last twenty years instead of singling out individual companies, we wouldn’t be here right now.

Rednote truly came out of nowhere for me, excited to see all of the academic papers about the cultural shift in a year or two. The discussions online are interesting already.

Happy first day of spring semester classes for those who celebrate it! Teaching at multiple institutions, I get to have two first days of classes, which does give me a bit of whiplash.

2025 has already proven to be crazy - I think we need to restart the year and try again.

I don't really use TikTok that much, but I find it fascinating that our government is on the verge of banning an app for national security reasons that are still unclear in the same week that Meta, the largest social media company, says it's now fine to hate LGBTQ people and call us mentally ill.

The headline alone causes such cognitive dissonance: "Meta ends fact checks as it prepares for Trump era"

Alright, I guess it's time to get back to work.

Honoured that @erikasolis.bsky.social @yaseminbeykont.bsky.social and I have been invited to participate in a provincial hearing in Quebec via the Special Committee on the Impacts of Screens and Social Networks on the Health and Development of Young Ppl, where we’ll discuss the harms of advertising🤸🏼‍♀️

Researcher: "We let the data speak for itself." Earlier that day:

Happy new year! I went from writing a chapter in a week to being stuck on perfectionism for my dissertation. I love this part of the process.

Jimmy Carter was the only US President to have lived in public housing. He lived a life of service and consequence. May he rest in peace.

Just a reminder that in 2019, RFK Jr.'s anti-vaccine misinformation campaign helped cause a measles outbreak in Samoa that killed 83 people, mostly kids. Do you really want him to lead the Department of Health and Human Services?

If we properly funded public media in this country, this would never have happened. Sesame Street should not have been forced to make a deal with HBO. #savebigbird #pbs www.nytimes.com/2024/12/16/a...

Hi, here to share a reflection of this fall semester. I made the crazy choice of adjuncting five classes (3 in person, 2 online) at three colleges in two states this semester while doing my dissertation. Here's my experience 1/6🧵

This is beyond absurd.
