Piers, Mohsen and the whole team are very kind and dedicated people - they really deserve this. And what’s fantastic besides the tomb is how they are trying to understand the (pre)history of the whole landscape

No idea. Perhaps because the bulb of the flake hinged so it wasn’t the shape/profile they wanted

Oh it’s definitely an artefact. The platform has several large facets, the convexities of the core have been prepared, and it’s in a landscape literally covered in stone tools

Wonderful picture! The Abydos work is something I’ve always referred to as a model for desert survey ❤️ Unfortunately I don’t have the team to do large scale surveys quite like that on this project, but I’m heading up to the High Desert here tomorrow to see how it compares
