If you haven’t read it, Blindsight is a book for our time. Published almost 20 years ago, it speaks to issues of intelligence, AI/LLMs, tech breaking social bonds, …and space vampires. We don’t have those yet but like I said this book has a good track record so I’d start reading up on them now.

The old AVR/amp I use to power my gaming table in-wall surround sound has ancient Airplay v1 and no upgrade path so I finally got around to dropping shairport-sync onto a spare rPi for Airplay v2. Now almost no latency on the streaming & it's much more network stable, plus volume control is better.

Got split ssh key auth for login and sudo working and a) I let out a whoop b) should have set this up ages ago. So I can now ssh in to the remote system and initiate a sudo and auth both with a fingerprint or Apple Watch. Definitely feels futuristic :)

Yet another confirmation that moving off Google for my personal email was one of the best decisions I've made. Just checked on my elderly father's Google Workspace to fix high volume scam mail. Turns out enhanced spam protection is only available for business users. Not, you know, senior citizens.

Reorganized my networking gear into a rack mount case I had sitting around. Slapped a big noctua fan on the front of my NAS and the drive temps instantly dropped by 20% (dropped a noctua on top of my DIY @opnsense.org router as well).
