If we winter this one out, we can summer anywhere. Salt lightly; pepper hard.

World class policy-making.

Strong defence of Lord Hermer, a fine, respected, experienced and principled lawyer who really cares about the rule of law. All things you might hope for and prize in an Attorney General

A grave stele of a young girl Melisto, aged seven. Melisto is depicted with her dog leapimg at a bird in her hand and holding a votive female figurine. She lived in Potamos a district southeast of Athens. #ReliefWednesday #AncientBlueSky #ClassicsBlueSky 📷Harvard Art Museums (1961.86)

Yes, the captain intentionally piloted the ship into a huge iceberg, cracking the vessel like an egg. But the officers insist we'll all greatly benefit from an invigorating midnight swim through Arctic waters.

Beloved #pet: a #Roman burial of a #dog. The animal was buried with a vessel, its head was bedded on a piece of leather. Even the Romans knew it: A life without #dogs is possible but pointless! From Cologne, dating 1st AD. 📷 Römisch-Germanisches Museum Köln 🏺 AncientBluesky

Has the world ever paid a bigger price for the consequences of one old man’s declining grasp of cause and effect?

gonna be sporting and give tim a five minute head start

It's just possible that right now we are living through the hubris and nemesis stages of Politics-as-entertainment.

The tariffs are America’s Brexit. Same immediate results. Same economically illiterate populism behind it.

I stand with the penguins of Heard and McDonald Islands!

Heard Island stands in solidarity with Greenland now and forever

So much for US deals. And with the current exemptions this also means that the big targets end up being consumer goods, hence why Asia will be so badly hit - electrical products and branded clothes etc. Which will hit many marquee US companies hardest.

There's an even more fundamental problem here. False claims about the real-life killings contributed to riots. So why the fuck does the leader of the opposition spread more false claims linked to those killings? Grossly irresponsible; utterly lacking judgement; and wholly unsuited to public office.

What's astounding is that Badenoch would - criticise a show she hasn't seen - invoke a false, debunked race baiting claim from a far right influencer who hasn't seen it either - take a shot at a show about the dangers of credulously believing online BS by herself credulously believing online BS

A Roman relief showing a man sailing a small coastal vessel, known as a corbita. The marble relief was found at Carthage, and dates to around 200 AD. Now part of the collections at the British Museum. 📸 My own. #ReliefWednesday

Fantastic fish-shaped glass cosmetic vessel! From el-Amarna, Egypt, 14th century BC. 📷 British Museum www.britishmuseum.org/collection/o... #Archaeology

Quick reminder: Le Pen wasn't found guilty because the French courts hate democracy. She was found guilty because she broke the fucking law. open.substack.com/pub/iandunt/...

One look is worth a thousand words! Wide-eyed, shield-biting, ‘berserker’ chess piece. One of the 12th-century Lewis Chessmen, from a large gaming hoard found on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, in 1831. British Museum 📷 by me www.britishmuseum.org/collection/o... #Archaeology

It turns out the Rule of Law needs lots of people of good faith to recognise/accept it, otherwise it doesn't work.

Terracotta figurine of a #dog holding his pup (or a prey?) in his mouth. Greek, Boeotian 1st half of the 5th century BC. Life without #dogs is possible but pointless 🐶🐕 On display at Antikensammlung München 📷 me 🏺 AncientBluesky #archaeology

I rather like this guy.
