Not only are we not laughing, some of us are struggling when looking at American friends and associates who brush off Trump’s comments as “jokes”. Culture has shifted and *some* (not all) Americans fail to see, or care for, it entirely

What are the optics if the meeting is cancelled at the last minute?

Is this the grown man equivalent of a J-14 poster?

Scheer, the same guy who was on CBC last Friday perpetuating disinformation around the BoC “printing money” during COVID (he knows better). I think the standards for a CPC leader can be even a *little* bit higher than this guy. You know, someone who values truth and integrity? What a brutal time.

@maritstilesndp.bsky.social @mark-carney.bsky.social @liberalca.bsky.social our universities are underfunded. There’s an excellent opportunity in front of us, why aren’t we taking a similar approach? The Munk School shouldn’t be the only one thinking long-term

I work with Americans who voted Dem in the last couple elections. One said something to the effect of “he just wants his name on more hotels and to appear strong, that’s it - he’s harmless.” 😐 This attitude is why I think it’ll get much worse in the short-term.

Why would Léger poll this? The US has showed that if you continue to present the same information, even if it’s a demonstrable lie, people will believe it to be truth because of the exposure

Ha! I can picture it. This was also one of my dogs for an entire summer. She would scoot in behind my other dog to avoid having to open it herself, and then magically forgot the next May when I put up the screen again and proceeded to walk right through.

A large portion of online culture sucks (re: “chasing clicks” accusations). With that said, there is a solid group of us who want to hear your thoughts on this and can behave like adults when listening if you end up choosing to write the script again. Completely fair if you decide it’s not worth it

@davidwcochrane.bsky.social ^. I’ve also spoken to a people irl who agree. Worth the tag since CBC more often than not hears when folks are unhappy. Last night was very well done, and the tired math was appreciated

Nit: Is it really a blue wave if the province historically always votes that way?

The anti-elite msg is landing with many who don’t want to pursue any education but still land high-paying jobs with benefits. Anger & emotion are driving a lot, while critical thinking and debate fall at the wayside. Increasingly, there’s no such thing as compromise, just “you’re wrong and stupid.”

My Con riding is quite a spectrum. Many voted blue out of habit. The SM push of not another Lib parliament + “change” was effective (FB esp). *Many* didn’t keep up with the campaign rhetoric, nvm read platforms. Some didn’t know PP led the cons, or that his msg was anti-woke. Mis/Disinfo won.

It’s almost baffling to me that a community would respect an MP, it seems so positive. I live in an area where, no matter the party, residents swear that MPs don’t serve the communities (I disagree), and that corruption controls the govt. Quite a thought experiment on how my area can evolve

It would be easier to laugh about this if there were adults in the room

Nailed it. Someone (irl, employed) tried to convince me one of these sites will tell you “things the mainstream media doesn’t want you to know.” They’re full of effective propaganda and need to be taken seriously as the danger they pose to society.

Don't misconstrue this post. We absolutely do not want a Conservative government. Poilievre is worse on every issue. But a parliament consisting only of centre-right Liberals and far-right Conservatives won't be good.
comment in response to post
Might be a tangent, but have you come across any materials detailing how to effectively counter these far-right ideologies? I have relatives who drank the koolaid and are emboldened by the Cons in this moment. I’m genuinely worried about how we get past this - we’re past the “just ignore them” stage
comment in response to post
That’s certainly a polite way to put it

Another point - we need more people in the world who are willing to speak up when they have an opinion, especially when that opinion relates to the benefit of the wider society. Too many are shrugging their shoulders in apathy and only worrying about themselves.

This is a really fair point

The current state of the Conservative party is disgusting. Liberals pulling a dumb move that stoops to the level of the Conservatives doesn’t belong in our country’s politics. Both can be true at the same time. Expecting more of one party doesn’t negate the disdain for another.
comment in response to post
They’re not “just buttons”. It’s the act of deliberately trying to sow division amongst a group to benefit another. These are dirty American tricks that have no place in our politics. Keep it clean, we need more integrity in this world.

Hey @liberalca.bsky.social, @mark-carney.bsky.social there’s an opportunity here: take out an ad to explain *why* this is dangerous. A shocking amount of Canadians *do not* understand why this is an actual problem and what it could lead to. There’s a real trend on the right to not trust the courts
comment in response to post
So it’s believable for Sheer to drop his citizenship, but not Carney? Can you elaborate on this?
comment in response to post
Don’t forget the tally sheets as well. The poll workers maintaining the sheets will do so after an already long 13 hour day
comment in response to post
Is it really that simple though? Poilievre is a symptom of a larger problem - people actually believe his far right rhetoric to be true. We’ll just end up with another version of him until we fix the deeper issues
comment in response to post
It shows they don’t understand how deeply troubling the hate and division in the right is, or the implications of further division for our country
comment in response to post
This is so incredibly idiotic that it can’t be rationalized away. Will be interesting to hear if Carney comes out saying these campaign staffers have served their communities for decades and will remain in their roles (/s)
comment in response to post
Serious (no need to reply): Have you considered entering politics? We need intelligent, genuine leaders who care. You communicate clearly, treat people like adults, and think critically - traits the public need to see in govt. If we want leaders who work for the people, people like you need to lead
comment in response to post
No, don’t do that. Name calling of any sort stoops to the level of the far right, and we need to collectively be better than that. We need Canadians to talk policy, and keep statements limited to things that can be backed by real evidence and facts.

Where’s the source for the claims on liberals?

Is there any significance in the language being “release from custody in El Salvador” instead of a mention of a return to the US?
comment in response to post
We need to see conservatives demanding more of their party leader. Until then, we’ll see more MAGA Maple.

This narrative has been taking over my area. Folks around me have really dug their heels in on this one, and there’s no reasoning allowed, apparently. We as a society have a lot of work ahead of us, it’s not just this election 🫠

The GIS increase for the year is actually helpful for a close senior. This I like to see.
