Some wear skis (probably pre-owned). My skiing peeps, you go!

Spending cuts that will actually do good.

Yep

Fetching folk art encountered on my walk with Marco this morning. I particularly appreciate the head dress accent. Amazing, what pep a bit of white pine can add to your style step.

A cat surveys his country on a deep winter morning and then decides to take a nap. For felines, that works.

To my point of earlier post this evening:

Elon, pray leave our elderly mothers out of your ill-intentioned hoodwinkery. NBC news:”The White House announced Monday that DOGE would tackle Social Security fraud, shortly after Musk posted a spreadsheet of the ages of people in a Social Security database with millions of them over 100 years” 1/4

I’m the dairy farmer running to replace Elise Stefanik in New York’s 21st Congressional District. Can you repost this, give me a follow, and help spread the word?

Lovely piece of folk art started me out on my cross country ski run of this afternoon. At one of my favorite places in the #fingerlakes. Because of the snowfall (not too heavy but heavy enough to keep most cars off the streets), had the place to myself. Can you tell how much I love #winter?

For those who are interested, I would highly recommend listening to @the-downballot.com. It covers elections happening across the country from a progressive perspective. What's going on in DC is a mess, but people need to pay attention to state and local politics, too!

Local, regional, state-level ever more important.

Given developments of this week, am hoping this page gets shared with the people who will need it (most Americans livenin the 100 mile border zone btw): www.aclu.org/know-your-ri...

The day after….hunting season in NYS, walking with my buddy in the woods near our house (which had been closed to the public for the duration of the season), I realize how much I’ve missed these characters.

In Australia

Long game, from local on up.

More of this glittering, cold yet gentle beauty. #winter #nature #hemlocks

Hard to overstate how much I have missed experiences like this in the warming winters of recent years in upstate/central New York. Though the cold of the past week has been bone chilling and for some, I know, rather hard, I am cherishing these walks with my dog this year. P

For the first time ever, Europe got more electricity from solar panels than coal plants in 2024, according to Ember data.

Arctic Freeze day 1 in the Finger Lakes. Best MLK Day wishes to you all!

I will never tire of this Cayuga lakeshore in all its seasons. (Also grateful for all the parks and public spaces that bring us there).

I went into the enchanting woods today—at a delightful local nature center preserve in upstate NY, my new skis strapped on. Yay! for the return of some real winter weather, including the (well-timed!) Arctic freeze along he NE/east coast ahead.

Vermont and New York recently became the first states to create “Climate Superfund” laws, which will require energy companies to help pay for the costs of dealing with extreme weather and climate change. As wildfires devastate the L.A. area, some are asking if California could become the third.

Today, NYT-The Daily highlighted how #Hegseth has dwelled on bringing a dedication to standards to the job he hopes to bag in the coming administration. His own qualifications for the job are…weak. Hoping someone called him on that during this week’s hearing? (couldn’t watch it myself)

Skunk? (Pretty in any case)

I was fortunate to catch Price’s Oscar Wilde performance during my first year of college @ UVa—over 40 years ago. Still remember it, strangely vividly. The long game impact of art…

Now is the time for people interested in the teaching of American history in New York’s schools to let their views be known.

I’m so sad for this. Palisades neighborhood.

State governments will need to take up the mantle of moving the country forward on renewable energy. Here is some of what they have in store this year.

For those interested in what specific legislation (call/email those Reps & Senators!) looming on the horizon that will have some serious impact on independent thinking in higher ed, this is an excellent overview: pen.org/for-federal-...

Outside of solar power (the unquestioned dominant giant), geothermal has the highest total potential of any form of clean energy.

On a wintry early January afternoon in central NYS, nearing dusk, the wonderful Rosamond Gifford Zoo offers a sublime moment for muse to go with a bit of walking exercise. Behold a critically endangered Amur Tiger reminding us of what is important in the world.
