You remember the folks who didn't like how "political" RATM got? Looool

We live in insane times and I've come to agree with the notion that we're poorly adapted to have access to this much information, let alone in real time. The cognitive dissonance is expected.

How do they traditionally differentiate between players in this circumstance? In the NBA, on OKC, where there's two players with the same name, the names are spelled different & one goes by a nickname.

Is it a tactic if they'll paint you the same way regardless of if you overstate or downplay your thoughts and beliefs?

The issue is also that the cons have no theory of mind of progressives that isn't completely infantile & incongruous with reality. That inability to accurately imagine or even parody progressive people shows an inability to understand the world beyond their limited understanding of it.

I encourage you to see the Jubilee Sam Seder video, the amount people understand about how government actually operates will surprise you.

I don't know how society shifts, but it should be easier for people to shift to "these are bad faith actors who need everything double checked" as opposed to taking known liars at face value.

I will yell this until the cows come home: **Different things convince different people.** And we should stop acting like there's one magic approach as opposed to like 5 synergistic approaches. Some ppl will be moved by anger & some by compassion. It is the job of politicians to utilize both.

Also, I will say, the animus that lead to Trump will only get worse if Obama speaks up as forcefully as people seem to want him to speak up.

THANK YOU SO MUCH. All of the AOC for prez people infuriate me, bc I'm like "she's hamstrung there and we'd lose her in less than a decade". Pelosi's old role or Schumer's current role would be perfect for her as opposed to her in the executive.

A study recently came out about how pol candidates who win in specific areas have more to do with the demos of the district than the moderation of the candidate. Very soon, they're going to realize that endlessly appealing to the other side's base as opposed to cultivating one is a losing tactic.

I love how being *called* racist is worse than actually being racist.

There's too many people defining the tent who are tourists (*coughs in literal Harris staffer who didn't even vote for her*). Bold progressive policies should be where the tent is defined & everyone else can build from that starting point.

Ppl could trust their local journos, but as that erodes, ppl who may struggle to synthesise info that they're not subject matter experts in will lean on ppl & personalities they trust as opposed to trying to suss out facts for themselves. Which is a fault, but I have no answers on how to rectify.

When I was young, it was way easier for someone like Phil to compile the "important stories of the day" for me, and then I could research from there. But news itself feels overwhelming, especially with the volume & paywalls (which I understand are necessary to feed ppl). Esp as local news withers.

I'm not saying sensationalism is good or anything, but maybe there's something in effective journalism that turns off people who may lack the ability to engage with it, and prefer to digest it in a more casual/informal way. This is before getting into the literacy issue in the US underpinning this.

@kattenbarge.bsky.social I completely agree with you. But what are your thoughts on the communication abilities of some of them (I'm thinking Phil DeFranco for ex). I love fact finding/checking. But some ppl don't engage with information that way. Especially younger ppl.

I just love that anything that isn't immediately deferential to their perspective of the world is somehow clearly false & artificial. As opposed to, maybe people who aren't like them like video games.

It would break the illusion if they were asked to specify *anything*. They'll be like "I'm being silenced" and if you look onto it, it's like three college underclassmen wrote an op-ed in their school mildly disagreeing with them.

A lap desk, it's actually very useful, think like the old school TV dinner tables but for tablets & laptops. Not that revolutionary though for all $10 worth lol
