Superb, by Brendan Loper in the New Yorker. Simply superb. ~AA

Watch what Trump says here. Then watch it again. "I would own it." Gaza. He would own Gaza. Not America. Him.

Here's what Elon Musk doesn't want you to know about how X is already interfering in UK politics. From @politico.eu

It’s spelled “Colombia”

Here we go. The start of the chaos. Immigrants treated like pollution. Ordinary consumers in US and elsewhere hammered by tariffs. Escalating rhetoric. Breakdown in international cooperation. And all of it achieving precisely nothing. Just a fucking waste of time. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cj...

Everyone was warned about this, and it’s happening just as we feared.

hate to be politics posting late in the evening, and not everything can be transferred from UK to US, but feels worth remembering that before becoming a v successful government, New Labour in the 90's was an *absolutely* ruthless opposition, just a relentless killing machine, much to think about!

It's just like that too!

I've been saying for many months that the real intent of a Trump 2.0 administration seemed to be the degrading of the federal fabric of the US. Not fully. Just enough for states to start a much more active race to the bottom on tax and workers' rights to appeal to an oligopoly of mega tech firms.

This is a very well reasoned and worded complaint. Predictably, the response makes no attempt to address what it says

Apologies for getting a bit political on main tonight. I think this cartoon sums it up.

Welcome to the plutokleptokakistocracy! Where the ultra wealthy steal from you and run the country in the most insanely inept way imaginable.

Lots of reporting suggested that, this time around, Trump and his lawyers would avoid the sloppy legal work that plagued his first administration so they’d fare better in the courts. I see no evidence of that in this round of executive orders. This is poor, slipshod work obviously assisted by AI.

In case you think that was just some weird moment, he repeated it.

Like... all this was known before the election. Why publish now?

Thank you Loryn Brantz. Resist. Resist. Resist.

First X and soon TikTok. State-controlled social media here we come

Get ready for the return of “Pope Endorses Donald Trump” and other similar viral bullshit. This is part of the redefinition of “freedom of speech” to mean “freedom from moderation,” where any limit on algorithmic boosting or virality at all is “”censorship””. www.platformer.news/meta-ends-mi...

Dude is 100% going to bomb the wrong country.

supreme court justice out here doing the “pornhub? i’ve never heard of that what is it” thing

These graphs need to be seen in concert. Trust in democracy is falling in under-45s. Growing numbers think voting doesn't matter. And a leader "who doesn't have to bother with elections" would be a better system of governance. This should seriously concern all in government.

The issue is that the Liberals never took the information wars seriously until it was too late. They thought reason and logic would triumph in a social media mess of disinformation. Almost the entirety of the opposition to it has been volunteer efforts working against well funded efforts.

All I can say about this Peter Thiel op-ed in the Financial Times is that it reads like something he actually wrote. No comms team or AI chatbot is capable of producing this strange paranoid string of sentences www.ft.com/content/a46c...

The desire to connect with my old twitter buds and get back to more serious engagement again is still outweighed by the desire to shout into the void without someone at work seeing it.
