Please… do not call the Trump/Musk administration “conservative.” Disregarding, even trashing, the Constitution and our system of government is many things (radical, terroristic, etc.), none of them “conservative.”

Neither Musk or Trump could name another cabinet - prominent members, accomplishments, etc. But they’re THE greatest.

It truly is consistently remarkable how stodgy and bland Nike designs are. Inviting submissions from college (or high school!) students would discover more creativity than the Nike bureaucracy has ever come up with.

Is there any possibility that Emma might be one of those folks who digs in her heels more deeply when encountering opposition, thus sticking even more doggedly with KA *because* of criticism? I don’t think so, but am struggling to find an explanation.

John F. Kennedy is credited with Profiles in Courage, a book focusing on 8 senators who displayed courage and integrity in resisting such pressures as “the constituency and interest groups.” Profiles in Cowardice is begging to be written, although limiting it to 8 would be a challenge.

Thanks for this.

There must be some kind of “understanding,” because (to my knowledge) Albert never has been interviewed by a well-respected woso reporter. Nor has there ever been an acknowledgment that there is an “understanding.” This might be a viable short-term strategy, but aren’t we past that?

And KA is in mid-season form in France, whereas Hutton, et al are just getting warmed up in preseason.

In an era in which shots from distance are derided as “low percentage,” we’ve had two real bangers in this tournament.

There is a small, but intense, Missimo cult out there. She needs to get out of Texas.

Uncle Don, tell us the story again about how President McKinley was shot by a transgender person.

She’s one of those players who makes you muse “Why doesn’t everybody do that?”

We need audio of Sandy MacIver pronouncing it.

We should have a midfield just for playing Colombia - Hal Hershfelt, Jaelin Howell, Taylor Flint…

Sounds particularly wise after watching Australia tonight.

Good stuff. I believe the whole Emma Hayes thing probably will work out, but I’m still crestfallen about not getting to see Hal H. take on Colombia tonight.

From Menewood by Nicola Griffith, how about “Haegtessan,” summarized here as “terrifying and powerful, they hurl weapons that can kill and/or torment, and they ride over the graves of the dead… women with supernatural attributes who live in the boundary between worlds.” gemaecce.com/2022/09/20/h...

I was reminded the other day that Twila Kilgore’s name hasn’t been mentioned much lately.

Exhilarating discussion of USWNT roster! Great stuff. No names, but do you guys get responses/feedback from any players?

It was irony.

Well-timed. This afternoon I’m headed to a college D3 women’s lacrosse match featuring my beloved local team, usually in the natl top 10. It took some time to learn the basic rules and concepts, but after that…zoom. Hint: Sit near someone who knows the game; directly or indirectly, they can help.

Very good piece of woso analysis - always appreciated. Thanks!

More evidence the Americans don’t respect the game, no doubt.

If Riley Tiernan makes the ACFC roster, she’s got an excellent chance.

John Wilkes Booth would endorse this.

I wish they somehow could have gotten Elisabeth Shue into the show. She was a truly path-breaking woso player in NJ in the 70’s.

I was thinking about how vulnerable we are to public health disasters, especially when policymakers try to deny or ignore scientific reality, while watching the HBO series Chernobyl. Uncomfortable.

And I still, for the life of me, do not understand why no bona fide sports journalist has interviewed Albert. It’s like she’s in the witness protection program. This is NOT the way to build trust or confidence.

Re: concerns about veterans getting squeezed out… In the short term, the supply of teenagers leaving high school or college early might ebb, since “the best” already have moved (?). So far, those youngsters are sticking to rosters.

Love the podcasts, but do admit finding the obsession with King a little unsettling.

It is remarkable, and totally appropriate, how much NWSL promotional material features Trinity Rodman. The league and the Spirit need to do everything possible - raise the salary cap, whatever - to make the NWSL the home for Rodman and other faces of the league. Stars matter.

Can’t wait to see her get the chance to boss MF. And I hope Emma will be watching.

Words from the psychologist who observed Nazi defendants at Nuremberg: “I was searching for the nature of evil and I now think I have come close to defining it. A lack of empathy… a genuine incapacity to feel with their fellow men. Evil, I think, is the absence of empathy.”

If the question is how to maximize development that is likely to attract top NWSL teams or WSL Royals and/or USWNT, the USL SL is not the top choice. Related: comparison of USL SL with Vrouwen Eredivisie? (thinking of Yohannes comparison)

Thanks. My perspective on lots of college players is skewed because, watching college matches, I tend to be influenced by commentators who usually are homers and/or people who describe every player as a superstar.

Ava Tankersley? Cat Barry?

The process of elimination might take longer then.

A few days ago, I was musing about several woso players in recent years who were really Big Deals in college, etc., seemingly on the brink of high-level pro success, but then apparently lost passion for the game. It happens.

Not the typical music for a woso media post. Very cool. Exposing my ignorance, what is it?

As players continue to leave Gotham, I keep thinking the most recent departure might be the “issue” supposedly at fault. But, no, then another player leaves, so the “problem”must still be on the roster. We’re in Hercule Poirot territory.

At least ACFC is changing coaches and sporting director, which seems like the end of something and the start of something. Why, then, was it “necessary” for the Bright move to go through, weeks later? Did she want to go back to Texas?

And I notice that the vibe around the league has gotten a noticeable jolt with returning and arriving players on social media. It really is about them.

Also a Florida native - first 25ish years, enough of it spent hatless and shirtless to become a dermatologist’s (and surgeon’s) bonanza. Modern sunscreen not widely available until too late for my youth. Wear sunscreen/sunblock, kiddies - it’s a modern miracle!

In his first term Trump thought he could run things like a family business. Now there’s a bitter brain-trust doing his homework, so he can be just the public mouthpiece, which is what he’s good for.

The piece reads like the author had a great deal of fun writing it, which must have been the point. It must have felt good to belittle somebody who is trying to do something positive, didn’t it?
